The OP. And while it’s unfortunate that we still live in such a world, Gerania makes an excellent point.

That leads me to think of more rural college towns, like Lewisburg. The college doesn’t have to be overtly liberal (Bucknell is hardly a Swarthmore or Haverford). As long as it’s not anchored to a far right brand of religious adherence, the area should at least be tolerant.

ok I didnt get that from the OP post and the fear he posted were more of crimes than intolerance. philly and area in general leads the state in assaults on trans people (which from your description I still cannot state with certainty the OP is) and yeah, I would be wary of urban areas.

hell, move to PSU.

No one said OP was trans. Some people are gender-nonconforming.

I think State College would suit him just fine from a tolerance and safety standpoint, but I got the sense he wanted a smaller and even more rural town.

I know. My cousin’s family runs one of those farms. And while I don’t think they’re (overtly) racist, they’re pretty far from trans-friendly. Even Bellefonte wouldn’t be a great choice.

not seeing it, specially since I frequent the area for the lake (1984-present) I lived in the area either myself (00-08) or the 'rents 83-95) and my siblings are all graduates...

so are you saying the locals are not friendly, or just your cousins family? that was unclear.

you went from the place would suit him just fine to not a great choice in 24 hours - please splain

We’re talking about two different things. State College proper and the immediately adjacent suburbanized areas are not the rural farming sections or smaller towns. I’m talking about locals (again, of those areas beyond the core), who include my cousins.

I still think State College may be more dense and built up than what he’s looking for, but I could be wrong. I’m personally turned off by the rah rah “we are…” culture, but that’s another issue entirely.

Yeah, that was a surprise to me, moving into PA. This seems to apply to anyone who's had any type of contact with PSU however remote or minimal.

I still don't see the guy from Northeastern New Jersey who moved to San Francisco calling rural PA home.
