So I moved to Hanover, Pa and my neighbors are no so welcoming. The sellers of the house I brought have come to the house several times since I’ve moved it, which is very inappropriate. Several notes have been left on my front door, which is inappropriate. A dog was running around on the next street over and a neighbor comes and ask me if I know where my dog is, which I found to be a stupid question. I’m sitting on my front porch of course I know where my dogs are in my back yard where I left them. I’m really not understanding what these people issues are but I’m starting to think it’s because I’m a black female. The sellers boyfriend came to my home trespassing and called the police on me. They write up a report with my name in it, even though they never spoke to me because I wasn’t home. I’m just at a lost of words for what I’m going threw in this neighborhood. The woman that lives next door to me is very nice and respectful.

The ethnic makeup of the south central PA area including Hanover is not known for friendliness to strangers. See link.

OP, it's not you but rather the culture of south central PA. Everyone I know who moved to this area from other places has commented on how the people are superficially friendly but that's as far as it goes.

The locals have their friends from high school who share their values and ways of thinking and they are not interested in enlarging their social circle.

I would suggest that you seek out activities that you are interested in and you will find some like-minded people who may not become close friends but will at least be acquaintances that you can spend time with.

My bigger issue is the seller and their boyfriend coming back to property no longer theirs. Create your boundary now.

Not sure exactly how parochial Hanover itself is in terms of Amish compared to say Lancaster, but though I do get a bit of a backwards vibe with this region it's not exactly "Pennsyl-tucky" as compared to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre area. More like a satellite region of Baltimore if you like. Baltimore and York are only 50 miles apart.

You're describing the region the way I would describe the south. People are friendly on the outside but you can tell you aren't one of them. I've noticed that in Virginia and North Carolina. Less so in Maryland, but I've noticed people in the Baltimore region to be less "laid back" than people in Philly or even NY, so maybe that element trickles as far up as York/Hanover even if it's above the Mason-Dixon line.

I agree. I bought my house last year from a contractor who hadn't lived here for 4 years. He'd been leasing it out and finally sold it. I wouldn't even think about it, just say "go away, you don't live here anymore!" That simple
