Shippensburg is a nice college town, and close to Harrisburg, Gettysburg and many other great places in PA. I don't have any insight into the schools, but I haven't heard anything negative about them. I have friends on another forum from Shippensburg and they really like it there. They just had their second child. The oldest is still too young for school, but they plan to stay there and raise their kids there. Hope that helps.

shippensburg is pretty nice, they have a state owned college there. many of the people either work in the town or commute to chambersburg, carlisle or harrisburg area. it is pretty same, violent crime is non existant. the schools are good from what i hear. but you know as with every town in america, it is possible to get drugs. i wouldnt worry about tht though. average rent should fall in the 550 - ish range for an average apartment, nothing too fancy.

Has any one seen a ghost on Route 81in the Shippensburg area? My husband (driver) and I (passenger) just left the Subway Sandwich Store and headed for Route 81 South. We merged onto Route 81 and started traveling south. It was raining quite heavily, when I saw a figure hunched over (like someone trying to keep dry from the rain) running in front of the car across the southbound lanes of traffic. I let out a gasp! When it reached the middle of Route 81 the figure disappeared. I came home and typed in Shippensburg, Pa ghosts and was amazed to see that this town has a few “spirits”. It would be interesting to know if this was an actual ghost sighting

Hi, I moved to Chambersburg Pa earlier this year and we looked in Ship also...it was very nice and quiet, lots of good family neighborhoods. We only picked Chbh b/c we liked the house we bought the best. Ship has lots of college kids and from what I read in the police reports they are the most of the petty crime...disturbing the peace, dui, etc. The univ is downtown so unless you plan to spend a ton of time there you won't be affected. From what I recall schools were pretty good too. For shopping, I don't recall seeing much, but Chbg is 7 miles south in 81 and there's a lot here, including Walmart, Target, Kohl's, Michaels. The mall, which is 5 miles from Ship has Sears, JCP, Burlington Coat Factory and a movie theatre along with one story of typical mall stores. If you go north to Carlisle I know there is an Old Navy, Target, Pier 1, Ross, TJMaxx.
We really love the area...people have been very friendly and we are glad to be here.
