Hello. My son will be going to YTI Motorcycle Technology Center in July. We are looking for an efficency or 1 bedroom for him in a DECENT area of town, within 10 miles of the school.

Can anyone tell me what are DECENT areas of York? Meaning, an 18 year old kid can live safely by himself?

We want something affordable - I found some in the downtown area that are in our target price range. What is that area like?

It doesn't have to be ultra secure like a gated community, but something that a person could feel safe (but cautious) going to their car walking down the street, etc.

Any help or tips would be so greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

There are some apartment/townhouses within sight and walking distance of the main campus of YTI. They do rent to students in groups. We also have a large student rental area in/around York College and Penn State York. I believe the motorcycle center of YTI is at a different campus, maybe in Emigsville or Manchester? I would suggest going to the admissions office and seeing if there are other students in the same position, they might be able to suggest housing and roommate possibilities. Try craigslist too.

Some areas of downtown would be fine, others not so. Depending on where the campus is, North York area might be a better choice.
