Default Question about car taxes?

I was looking and can't find what i need. DO you have to pay property tax on your cars in Pa? Also do you have to get your car inspected there too? I am trying to get this all together before we move. Thanks

No Personal Property taxes. Car inspection is a must do. In PA when you purchase a vehicle you pay 6% tax, no matter if new or used.

How would you transfer your vehicle coming from another state...Do you really have to take the complete drivers test over?

I went to the website it said as long as you transfer within 60 days you DO NOT have to take the test.Which i am very glad about. You do have to have your ss card,2 proofs that you live in the state, and your birth cert. with the raised seal.Which I will have to get because i don't have that. Also it said something about a vin trace. Not sure what that is.

So where do you get your car inspected? I think we use to have to that in SC but it had to be when i was little. We have to pay car taxes every year and they add a $25.00 road tax on top of what you already have to pay. What is the sales tax in PA? We are 5% here.

Car inspection is once a year, available at any garage that provides the service. Along with state inspection you need to have an emissions test done on the vehicle as well. The cost is around $70-100. Sales tax is 6%.

Default Emissions...

Emissions is only required in some counties, not all. If you do a web search on the prices, I know there is a web site that lists the garages by county and what their fee is. Sorry, don't know the website Here in Wayne County, emissions is not required.

Default Emissions test

I may be wrong, but I believe a mechanic connects a meter to your tailpipe to measure the amount of pollutants that are in your exhaust.

Here in central PA we don't have emissions tests. Our mechanic does our inspections for $20.00 plus a 6% sales tax of $1.20. You can have your vehicle inspected at any auto dealer garage or privately owned garage that is licensed by the state. They usually display a blue "keystone" sign noting that they are an official inspection station. In our area they seem to be on every corner!

A VIN search would be to find out the history of the vehicle by using the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). This tells if the vehicle was ever in an accident, totaled, flooded, etc.
