Smile Relocating to PA

Looking to relocate to PA from NY. Any suggestions
1. Good Public School - Elementary, Middle and HS
2. Catholic Church
3. Quiet No Crime
4. Shortest Commuting to NY 1 1/2 to 2 hrs
5. Decent Shopping Distance
6. Not too Expensive Homes
I hear Monroe County is a NO NO.

Have you considered Elk County? St. Marys has a very strong Catholic population. If you check the stats for crime on this site, it's almost ridiculously low, which is a good thing! Buffalo is about 2 1/4 hours away. St. Marys has a Walmart Supercenter, the town of Dubois about 40 minutes away has a decent mall. You can probably find a very decent 3 bedroom home for under 120,000, maybe even less. Elk County is also very beautiful, and has a lot of very beautiful counties surrounding it.

Clarks Summit is a very nice area that is a hotbed for newcomers to the region, but if your husband plans to commute daily into NYC for work you'll REGRET the move to the Scranton area. I'd have to say that your best option might just be Northampton County in the suburbs surrounding Easton or Bethlehem, or even the up-and-coming city proper of Bethlehem. Your husband will have a straight shot into the city via I-78 (albeit a congested commute). You were correct that much of Monroe County is starting to go downhill, especially Stroudsburg, but there are still nice areas there as well---namely the Pleasant Valley School District and towns like Brodheadsville, Sciota, Saylorsburg, and Reeders.

How are the public schools in Northampton County? How long is the drive from there to Manhattan?

You mentioned the Pleasant Valley School District are the schools good and how far into Monroe County is this, or how far AWAY from Stroudsburg?

Elks county is way far from NYC. I think to consider this county I would have to consider Lancaster/Berks/Lebanon County-reading, elizabethtown. Anyone know anything of allentown?

Sorry! I guess from my neck of the woods I automatically think of New York as Buffalo, since it's so close.
