Did the commute for years...
I did this commute for many years. You have about a 15-20 minute drive to the trenton train station. The train ride is about an hour and 15 minutes. It's really not a bad commute at all!

Newtown - NYC commute
I live in Newtown Township and commute to Manhattan 3 days a week.
- 20 minute drive to the Hamilton NJ Transit station (I prefer Hamilton to Trenton; it's easier to get to - all highway driving; newer station and more pleasant surroundings than Trenton; daily parking is $5 at Hamilton vs. $10 at Trenton; new parking deck at Hamilton has significantly improved daily parking spot availability)
- 1 hour express train to NYC Penn Station (only stops after Hamilton are Princeton Junction, Newark Penn Stn and NYC Penn Stn,)
All in all, not bad. (Unfortunately, NJ Transit sucks and the trains are rarely on time, especially during the hot summer months.)
Takes me 90 minutes door-to-door, to get to Penn Station.
Hope this helps.

My husband and I want to relocate at the end of the year to either Bucks or Monroe County, PA. He will still commute to NYC everyday. How are the schools in each county? The homes? Communities? Any info you would have would be greatly appreciated.

Trains to Newark Airport; Commuting to NYC
There are a numer of trains on the NJ Transit northeast corridor line that stop at Newark Liberty airport. I've done it many times...Drive from Newtown to the Hamilton NJ Transit station (about 20 minutes) and hop on a (non-express) train that stops at the new Newark Liberty NJ Trasnsit stop (about 45 minutes from Hamilton).
As for commuting to NYC - the best places to do that from, in my opinion, are Yardley/Lower Makefield, Newtown and Upper Makefield (all in Bucks County). I'm partial to Newtown because I relocated here from Manhattan 2 years ago. The schools in Newtown (Council Rock School District) are excellent and, from everything I've read and heard, a notch higher than the Yardley/Lower Makefield public schools.

Train from Monroe County PA to NYC
I have heard a rumor that there might be a train that goes from Monroe County to NYC. I personally only care if it goes to Wayne NJ in Passaic County, because I work in that town. Does anyone know if there is any truth to that rumor, or if there would be away to sign a petition to help extend a train line out that far?
It would be great to have a train go that far, traffic is terrible and it only makes sense to have a train available.
If anyone has any ideas of how to get a train from PA Monroe County to connect to a NJ Transit line it would be appreciated.

We are thinking of doing the same, and are having a hard time finding a house we love as much as ours in Havertown. May sound crazy to some, but we love older homes and the older ones in Newtown or Yardley are more expensive.
Also, have you ruled out Pennington, nj? The taxes are higher in Jersey, but we are considering it because it is a great little town.
