Default House-hunting in SE Pa ?

Hello cathygio,

I have a home listed in Strasburg, PA 17579 (just 7 miles from Lancaster City & convenient to US 30), a very quaint historic boro with near zero crime.

Go to For Sale By Owner (FSBO), Sell home house condo Buy Real Estate MLS and in the section named "Buying A Home?" type in the LISTING ID: 20951438 ; then click the "GO" button.

It's more like the 400K range, but if you have further interest just reply with your email address and I'll send you the Listing Data Sheet and "A Brief History" of the property, which dates back to 1874.

We don't have any children, so schools aren't an issue, but we would like a safe, community-minded place with character and people that care about where they live.

We would be happy with a 50+ year old, 3 bedroom cape or colonial on 1/2 acre of land (in the $300,000 range) so we can do our gardening, and maybe board a horse or two somewhat nearby (within 20 minute or so).

A friend mentioned Carlisle to us, and we are taking a weekend trip out that way soon. In the meantime, we are looking for additional areas we can research.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Thanks, Cathy

I'll add my two cents about Carlisle's crime and drugs. It aint' Mayberry--but what is? Carlisle definitely has crime and drug issues (hello, it is a college town) and racial tension and has for thirty plus years. I grew up there, still have family and friends there and go back regularly. At the same time, it is a small town and does not have these problems to the same extent that, say, Baltimore city enjoys. Can a motivated high schooler get their hands on illegal drugs? Probably. Will they later be shot or stabbed in drug dispute? Probably not. If the original poster doesn't have children and isn't into street drugs, I'd say this isn't an issue for her family.
