You know I think the deal is with Philly is that it is out of date and crumbling and still stuck in the 50's and 60's. Just a look at the highway system says it all. 4 lane highways in the middle of the city? Uh you need more like 6 or 8 or 10! Except for the F terminal the rest of the airport is out of date, run down and inefficient. I think airports are important because they are the first impression many people get when visiting for fun or business.
The unions have a stranglehold on everything so it's impossible to do anything. The government has issues. Economically it's flat. It's not a welcoming place to do business.
I was born there and when I return it's still the same dump it was back in 1977.
Don't get me wrong there are a lot of positives you can find about the place, but it's only good for visiting. I'd never live there again. Ever.
A lot of the Rust Belt which I would say Pennsylvania is a part of, became that way because they failed to change and evolve with the times. I think Pittsburgh is much improved compared to 20-25 years ago. Philly still feels like 1965 and the city is riding that right into the ground.
Lastly, due to Phillys constant issues it bleeds the rest of the state of tax revenue that could be spent improving our own localities. I think people are tired of shipping our tax revenue to Philly via Harrisburg. Personally I would vote to let Philly secede to NJ.

Who the hell wants a 10 lane highway running down the middle of a city? Heck no. I say forget about expanding highways and put the money into improving SEPTA.

I don't like Philadelphia because it's generally not as clean as other cities, the cost of living is high, there seems to be a lot of political cronyism and corruption (although i admit other areas have problems like this as well) and i dislike the airport.
With that said, I wouldn't go out of my way to trash it (i know i kind of just did, but i'm simply answering the question) , but I'd never want to live there.

I might be in the minority here, but this notion irritates me to no end. Philadelphia is inextricably linked to Pennsylvania historically, culturally and economically. God forbid the city may not represent the rest of the state demographically, but it is still just as much a part of Pennsylvania as Harrisburg, Pittsburgh, Lancaster, Erie and everything in between.
I'd like to see an end to these divisive discussions. Regardless of your feelings about where tax funding is directed (which is a whole other debate in and of itself), we're all apart of this great Commonwealth we call Pennsylvania.

That's part of it (I had a co-worker ask me if many people from Erie went to college -- ). The rest of the state also sees Philadelphia as one giant drain on the state's resources, money and otherwise.

For Philly being anti-gun, there sure are a lot of shootings there.....a lot more shootings than the pro-gun places. (for the record I'm not a big gun person, I don't hunt and have never owned a gun).
