I think that's indication enough that, even though Philadelphia County's population proportion probably falls short of the proportion of GDP provided to the state economy, there are LOTS of suburbanites that make hefty salaries in the city that get counted into the GDP totals of suburban counties. Thus, the "metro area" measure is really the only fair way to determine the role that Philadelphia plays in our state economy insofar as it is a major center of employment for people outside the city limits.

The overwhelming majority of the Pennsylvania economy is driven by the Philadelphia and Pittsburgh metros.....That means the REAL Pennsylvania is Philadelphia and Pittsburgh....I say the metros cut the rest of the state loose and make Pennsyltucky the offical 51th state.

Well what is real to one person is surreal to another. While I agree that the population and economics are vastly driven by Philly and Pittsburgh, the diversity of PA is what makes it interesting. Pennsyltucky. LOL, love it.
