Hello all
I was in Erie last week on vacation with my 13 yr old son. We really enjoyed our visit.
Presque Isle is beautiful and my son loved Waldameer. We didn't get to the waterpark part till 5:45 and didn't realise it closed at 7pm.
I also looked at some homes and land for sale around the area.
You can get alot of house or land for the money compared to were i am now..Hanover,Pa. (east of Gettysburg)
I looked at 14 acres in Albion (25 min south of Erie) for $37000. The same amount at home would be $200000+.
As for work I understand it is not the best, but here in Hanover area the pay scale is low. Alot of people commute to Balt.,Md for work. I currently work in Hanover area at a low pay scale. I could go to Md. and make 15-20 more, but the fuel would kill my extra pay.So if I can find a position that pays even 10k ($35-40k) more then I am making now and sell my home here buy a home there with some extra to spare.
I be better off...and snow doesn't bother me. Lived is northern Mass. years ago.

Keep yakking about Erie, everyone, and maybe, just maybe in a year or so it will finally get its own sub-forum! I have just found out from a very reliable and trustworthy source that a Harrisburg sub-forum is being considered for the near-future. I'm enjoying learning so much about Erie. I can't wait to visit myself. I actually just received a travel guide in the mail a few weeks ago from the C&VB.

BOBBB:
My wife and I were looking at Hanover as a retirement location (she's originally from Elizabethtown). It seems like prices in that area, for eveything, are bad because more and more people are moving there and commuting to Baltimore. What are your thoughts?

When you need to know what bars sell the cheapest pitchers and/or the best wings, just ask.

Rtom45, Yes the prices of most things in the Hanover area are going up . The only thing that I noticed was less then my trip to Erie last week was Gas Erie was 3.89 at almost every station from Grove City northward. Gas in Hanover is running 3.73-3.75 range. Carlisle is even cheaper for some reason. I do think the rising prices around Hanover is from the influx of people from Md. areas. Some of the builders in this area used to advertise " drive 20 min. save $20000". Im not sure you save that much anymore. I live in a neighborhood of 75 homes. Most of my neighbors that work local are dual income families. The single income familys seem to be employeed in Md.
Don't get me wrong ,Hanover is a nice area to live in but you need a good income to be comfortable. Hanover is not known for many well paying Jobs. There are things to do depending on your interests Gettysburg is about 15-25 min away (depending on what side of Hanover you live on) York is about 30-45 min , Carlisle is 45min, Harrisburg about 60min , Baltimore is 60-90 min.
Ohiogirl81, How is the job situation in eastern Oh. Ashtabula area? I am in automotive Management (not car sales) but am open to logistics and other lines of work.

I can't speak much for Ashtabula, but i can't imagine it's any better than the rest of northeast Ohio. I live in Trumbull Co. right below Ashtabula. Our area has seen better days, but you might be able to find a job in logistics in the Youngstown/Warren area. I'm not exactly sure what you do, but GM Lordstown is here as well as many of GM's suppliers. I know there are also many trucking companies/car hauling companies in the area.
People discount our area, but we are in a good location halfway between Cleveland and Pittsburgh as well as Chicago and NYC. It also helps that I-80 runs right through our area. Hopefully my adviced helps...........maybe Ohiogirl can add some more.
