Default Carlisle Area / Carlisle Barracks

Hi everyone...
Just wondering if any of you have any experience leaving in Carlisle Barracks' housing.
My husband is a military officer relocating to PA. He will work at Schuylkill Haven, PA. I have not read really positive things about that area and I have considered other areas south of SChuylkill but so far we have not found suitable housing/ neighborhoods and also within BAH or close to it.

So we are considering living in Carlisle Housing and my husband commuting to Schuylkill for work. In case he deploys I will be in a post with other military families.
Have any of you done a similar commute?
We are looking at a commute of 71 miles each way....

Default Carlisle Barracks

I am a police officer working on Carlisle Barracks Army base. Although I have never lived on base here, I can tell you that most of the on base housing is being remodeled with many new units opened a few months ago. A lot of the others are due to be remodeled. The problem is that depending on when you are coming here the bulk of the housing will be filled in July each year because most of the population here transfers in the Summer because they are only here to attend the US Army War College from August until June. I can tell you for sure that this is one of the safest places to live on earth, and is one of the prettiest bases I have ever been on in my 20 year Army career!
