I agree with taking Route 30. (I miss the ship hotel.)
Niagara Falls - When in Erie you are a 2 hour drive away.
The view is best from the Canada side.

Unfortunately,
PeterRabbit , it burned down a few years back and has not been rebuilt.
It's a shame. I loved to stop there when we'd travel to Maryland.

Extra tip..
When going from Erie to Pgh... if you're interested in small town, try going straight down US Rte 19 instead of Interstate 79. They parallel each other, but 19 goes through the towns along the way instead of bypassing them.

Not to veer too wildly off topic ... other than to say that U.S. 30 is one wild, twisting ride over the Alleghenies!!! ... but the signs promoting The Ship always cracked me up: "See three states!!!" Well ... BFD. All those mountains looked alike. How were you supposed to know which ones were in West Virginia, and which ones were in Maryland???

As toobusytoday said, Bethlehem is definitely worth a visit as well. If you take I-476 northwestward from Philadelphia to Scranton, the Lehigh Valley sits smack dab in the middle.
