Warren is a very nice town. A drawback is the amount snow in winter which can be said for much of Pennsylvania except the southeast part of the state where the winters are noticeably warmer. Of course, the summers are warmer than the rest of the Commonweath, too. I also agree with the post about Lewisburg. Very charming college town with the Susquehanna river running throuh it.

Wellsboro, Pottsville, New Cumberland, Hamburg, and Tamaqua. All of these towns (Pottsville is a very small city pop. 14,000) have decent to great downtowns.

Honesdale has really come into its own with Roots and Rhythm, Art Alliance events, sidewalk sales , La Patessierre du Jour for great soups, salads, and delightful desserts, Sweet Eden for great coffee and desserts, Himilayan Institute w/ its main st. cafe. Great shopping too---visit Wallflower Boutique--amazing ecclectic selections and some newly opened boutiques. It is located in the tail end of the Poconos and has many lakes in the area as well as beatiful scenery.
I just counted 13 turkeys on my walk thru the woods , and often see deer. This area is tops in my books. We are adding good things to attract people to our area. Their is also Prompton State Forest in the area where you can play frisbee golf, fish, and walk for miles on their hiking trails. There is Keen Lake Camping and Cottage Resort with a 96 acre lake....I love going kayaking there. My friends stay at their newly built Lodge---the Lodge at Keen Lake, and are surprised that such nice offerings are available in the area. Let me know what else you would need!!! Plus we are only 2 1/2 hours from New York if you need a change of pace..............

i have lived in quite a few places in PA. i was raised in NEPA - so i would check out clarks summit/green, waverly, fleetville areas.

i lived in south eastern pa - check out chester springs, exton, downingtown - all very nice areas

i lived in western pa - murraysville, moneroville (my least fav place that i lived) but it is bustling and close to pit.

i currently live in the lehigh valley in bethlehem(lower saucon township
although i would also check out emmaus and lower mccungie areas as well.

my favorite of all of them is NEPA. we currently have a lake house there and i still have family there so i go there all the time. it is friendly interesting and beautiful.

GL!

New Hope, Newtown, Yardley, to name the first three off the top of my head.

These are all located in Eastern Pa., Bucks County.

These three all have quaint, historic shopping districts (Main streets) with New Hope being the most touristy of the three. All are very safe and family oriented, good schools, and fairly close (one hour) to the beaches in Central Jersey. They are also fairly expensive compared to lots of other places in Pa. (exception: Main Line, Pa.: St. David's, Bryn Mawr, Upper/Lower Merion, Villanova, etc.).

I think it depends, too, on whether the people looking to relocate have children or not. These towns are all family-oriented, for the most part, where some of the smaller, beautiful rural areas in Pa. are not always the places that kids want to live -- "too boring," "too far," "nothing to do, nowhere to go," are the usual complaints.

I Love the Adams county area. As well York county in spots. Close to Hershey, Harrisburg, Baltimore. Just an hours drive. We still affordable housing and fair taxes. Best of all you can pull into your drive in the evening and enjoy the quite.

This happens more often than you'd believe. I've seen these "fly-by-night" or "one-post-wonder" members come and go dozens of times since I joined this forum in mid-2006. It's a shame that so many of us try to be so helpful, yet the original poster can't at least give us the common courtesy of a reply letting us know if our suggestions have proven helpful in their search or not.

Well even tho the OP didn't get back to you guys, I want to let you know that the last 3 pages of your comments is EXACTLY what I'm looking for! THANKS to all of you! I have posted here and there t/o CD Forums, as I'm trying to get a LOT of info on a LOT of places in the northeast to mid-atlantic section of the country. I really know I want to move out of NY, and I'm visiting as many places as I can; but there's only so much time & $$ to physically visit all of them.

So far all the towns you've mentioned are the kind I'd want to live in. But I need to be able to relocate my business there. I am a florist and most of the florists t/o USA are being squeezed by the grocery stores & even the big box stores like Walmart & Target.

Not that I can blame consumers, I used to purchase flowers at the grocer's myself for all the same reasons. I even worked at one for 18 months specifically to see what it would take to stay in business against them. I know no matter how good the business grows, I'll never come close to the amount they do. But I have done my homework, & worked at small places as well before going out on my own.

Which brings me to one more question for all of you, if you'd be so kind. (ok- maybe 2 questions...lol)

1 - Knowing the state of our economy & how strapped we are all becoming, would you say there are a fair # of people out there (like me!) that will spend 10-15 bucks 1 to 3 times a month to take home a bouquet of flowers, or bring some to work, to a sick friend, etc.?

2 - Are all of those towns you listed above already inundated with florists or not able to support the ones that are there? Any of those towns you think could use one more flower shop? The last thing I want to do is put up shop where someone is already successful but still needing every available customer. I need a town w/ a "main st." shopping area w/ a variety of businesses that generate moderate to heavy foot traffic.

I understand if you all are too busy, and I'll keep searching & reading the forums for insight. I drove up thru PA on my way back to NY from VA. Only the 4th or 5th time in PA, and I love it more every time! Thanks for all & any comments!!
