Mine would have to be (1) Pottsville and then (2) Scranton and finally (3) Hazelton.

Jim Thorpe - hands down! It's where both of my parents grew up, back when it was Mauch Chunk and East Mauch Chunk.

Technically Jim Thorpe is not a city but a borough. It is one of the nicest places in the Coal Region though.

Oh, sorry. I thought by "city" you just meant municipalities in general. My bad! :P

Wilkes-Barre of course... After all it is where Anthracite coal was first burned. That in turn gave birth to the Anthracite Coal industry, that in turn put our region on the map. Second pick, Pottsville ( but only because they make damn good beer down there) . Long Live Yuengling!

Does Tamaqua count? I would put my hometown, Nesquehoning, just because I loved growing up there - doing "nothing" was an awful lot of fun!
But it's not a city, and I have great memories of cruising Tamaqua ! That was a goal - to start trolling around other towns as soon as you got your driver's license! What lofty goals we had!!!
Love Pottsville too - my dear friend's grandfather used to work at Yuengling and when he retired, got a case of free beer every week. We LOVED him when we were in college! LOL!

Ashland borough. As a tourist from the NW PA/Eastern Ohio area, I really enjoyed the Pioneer Mine Tour. Western PA has some bituminous mine tours, but none are as good as the one in Ashland.
