Fleetwood
Someone told me GM actually built Cadillac Fleetwood there. Low and behold, last time I was riding through I saw an old abandoned factory with a huge Fleetwood sign. This can't be true, can it?

Where exactly were you? It could have been Fleetwood motor homes.

Did they also tell you that Fleetwood Mac lives there? If you drive down Fleetwood Blvd, you might see Fleetwood Mac driving past the Fleetwood Cadillac factory in a shiny new Fleetwood Cadillac.

I believe the Fleetwood and other Cadillac bodies were made by the Fisher Body Works division of GM in Detroit, MI. Don't know if that is the case anymore.

Berks was very big in early automobile manufacturing. I still see trucks with frames with Reading logos on the metal so maybe(?) they still make the frames here. I also remember as a kid in the 70s our family car having an emblem Body By Fisher, Fleetwood pa in the doorframe. Boyertown Pa has a great antique car museum, BTW. And there is debate over whether or not the first automobile was built in Berks.
The Cadillac Fleetwood was named in honor of Fleetwood pa If i'm not mistaken.

Yes, they did build it there, and the car is pretty much the town's icon. Having lived in nearby Kutztown, Fleetwood was a frequent destination for my bike rides and I have to say it's a nice town--even looked at an apartment there once, but it was too expensive!

I *think* the truck frames were once made by the now-closed Dana Corp. plant in Reading. There is also a Reading Equipment/Reading Body that manufactures/installs units on trucks-like tool boxes and utility boxes.

Was the actual Cadillac Fleetwood body made in Fleetwood, PA?
Allentown (now Macungie, PA) is where Mack trucks are made.
