I lived in the Philly area for a few years, and thought I loved Wawa's. It is a Philly thing - like Tastykake, cheesesteaks and the Eagles. Then I moved out to central PA, where there are NO Wawa's, only Sheetz. IMO, and it is a close decision, I would take Sheetz over Wawa. Atleast in the Harrisburg area, the Sheetz are big, new, and very clean. The sandwiches are marginally better at Sheetz. Not the ingredients. Just the construction. Never liked how it was very difficult to eat a Wawa sandwich in the car without it falling all over the place. A Sheetz sandwich holds up pretty well in one hand. And the MTO ordering system was developed by Sheetz far before Wawa.
The shakes at Sheetz are great. Not sure if Wawa has a comparison. (disclaimer: its been about 2 years since I have been to a Wawa other than the one SE of Reading on 422). I personally like the coffee at Sheetz better as well. One huge advantage in the coffee dept is the foam cups at Sheetz. I like it hot, and the paper cups they use at Wawa are good for about 10 minutes.
I will agree with the poster that said breakfast at Wawa is better. Again, I don't know if its ingredients as much as construction as the difference. Sheetz does not toast their english muffins and that makes a big difference.
Again, close comparison. Would be interesting to see the companies directly compete. It seems PA is split by Wawa- or Sheetz- dominated areas.

Wawa is out of Chester County and is also in New Jersey, Deleware, Maryland, and Virginia. Sheetz is out of Altoona and is also in Ohio, West Virginia, Maryland, and Virginia (I think, not 100% sure).
I can say that Wawa wins for me because their sandwiches are incredible--Sheets has a long way to go in the sandwich department and that is what does it for me.

I like things from both stores. Wawa has excellent coffee and Sheetz has a nice selection of sandwiches.
Now for Tea, Turkey Hill is my favorite.
Fried Chicken, Royal Farms!

There aren't any WaWa's in Western PA. I happened upon some while in NJ this summer. Great store. Love all the fresh food selections! Wish convenience stores had fresh food in my neck of the woods!

Wawa does have shakes, but they're terrible. I've never tried the Sheetz shakes, but Sheetz has to win this category.

They do compete in the outer DC suburbs. Wawa is more widely known here, and probably has the upper hand. They do a lot more radio advertising than Sheetz. My experience has been that the gas stations are equally packed, but there are more people at the fresh food counter at Wawa than Sheetz. I've never seen sales stats for either though.

That's amazing! My ideal convenience store is some combination of the two- take the hoagies and breakfast sandwiches from Wawa and combine them with the technology and large selection of a Sheetz. This unholy Wawa-Sheetz hybrid would be unstoppable.

See this is a hard question. Sheetz has the best chicken sandwitches and they have a greater variety than Wawa, but Wawa's food is much better.
