Fun things to do around Lewistown & Selinsgrove
I'm finally going to make it out to visit the area. Aside from looking at houses with a local realtor, I'd like to visit some things in the area. I'll most likely be coming out with a girl friend of mine and we're both into things like hiking, music, and history. Any suggestions on what to visit that will both be fun and give me some local flavor? Speaking of flavor, are there any really good vegetarian restaurants in the area that are worth checking out? Either that or a good Italian place - I can always be happy with some pasta! Why are the evil carbs soooooooo good?

West of Lewisburg (and also west of Mifflinburg) on Route 192 is R. B. Winter State Park. There's a lake and swimming beach, as well as numerous hiking trails. You can also access mountain trails from Route 45 west of Mifflinburg. You can actually hike from Route 45 to Route 192, but that might involve an overnight backpacking trip.
There are walking trails in Lewisburg at the LARA park, just to the west of Route 15 near the Days Inn (I think that's the one - with Perkins in town) and in Selinsgrove off of High Street (one block west of Market Street).
If you're in downtown Selinsgrove check out Emma's, a fairly new restaurant that features many "different" dishes, such as foods for vegetarians, local produce in season, and even gluten-free recipes.
On Route 522 just west of Selinsgrove is Amato's (up the hill from the Weis Market in town) which features very good Italian food at a reasonable price. For more upscale Italian dining, try La Primavera just at the western edge of Lewisburg on Route 45.
You mentioned Lewistown - did you mean that, or did you mean Lewisburg? If Lewistown, I can't offer much help there but maybe some others can. Lewistown is about an hour or so west of Selinsgrove on Route 522 (which I think is actually marked as south of Selinsgrove).
Lewisburg has Slifer House Museum and I think another one, as far as history. Not sure what Selinsgrove has. New Berlin (west of Winfield offRoute 15 on Route 304) has a nice little historical society museum.
As far as music, it just depends if there is anything happening at either university - Bucknell in Lewisburg or Susquehanna in Selinsgrove. During the summer many communities have Wednesday evening concerts in their parks, but I'm pretty sure those are done now.

Thanks Dawne for the great information, as always!
And yes, I meant Lewisburg, not town! Whoops! It's hard to keep my burgs and towns straight sometimes!

Good that you made clear it was Lewisburg......if it was Lewistown you'd find nothing of what you're looking for unless you consider mini-golf to be an event to build an evening around.
...and yes, before the whipping begins from the Mifflin County folks, I lived there ten years....I can speak fondly of my former stomping grounds.
