Indiana Information
Hello.
I´m thinking about going to study the next year to IUP, but really I don´t know hardly anything about Indiana.
I would like to know some information like the weather, the student life, the city´s composition (Bars, monuments, parks...) and other important information that you could give me. Thanks.

Yea its a nice town. Its not real big or anything but its a party town. Its a safe area too. The cold is the only fault if you dont like cold weather, but it doesent bother me. If you like to party youll like Indiana. Oh and a good place to eat there (wish we had one close to Pittsburgh) is valley dairy, you got to check that out.

Indiana revolves around the university, it's probably the largest employer in the area. Indiana itself, like most PA state universities is in a fairly rural area. The winters can be miserable although if you like winter activities those are available. If you hunt or fish the opportunities are also there. If you are from an urban area don't expect the range of cultural activities you are used to. You are 45 miles from Punxsutawney where you can have a good time around Feb. 2, although that has become commercialized since I last was on Gobbler's Knob with my bottle of Jack Daniels.

Indiana is a town of about 15,000 residents. It has a nice, small downtown with a few bars/nightclubs, a bunch of restaurants, boutiques, sheetz convenience stores, a rite aid. Very little crime, mostly just petty stuff. There's about one murder every two to three years.
There is a small mall with a kmart, bonton, sears, jc penney, old navy, american eagle, pac sun, aeroposotale, eb games, a few new restaurants that are coming, and a bunch of smaller stores.
There is a Super Walmart on the outskirts. There's also a strip that connects wal-mart to iup campus that has Ironwood bar/restaurant, a bowling alley, ollies, mcdonalds, papa johns, goodwill, liquor store, valley dairy, wendys, burger king, long john silvers, meadows ice cream, martins grocery store and a dollar tree.
There several golf courses in the area, a few putt putt golfs and driving ranges, the hoodlebug biking/walking trail.
Outside of town are a twolick lake and blue spruce lake where you can fish, sunbathe, and walk around.

Thank you very much. Also I like to run so is very important for me a place where I could to do jogging like a park. Is that lake (or other place) enough big to run comfortably by pathway? (more than 5 miles)

The football field has a 1/4 mile running track that is open almost all the time for running. There is also the Hoodlebug trail which is a trail that starts by Hoss's, which is at the edge of campus that is very popular for running. It goes through mostly wooded areas, though it also goes through the town of homer city and then along route 119. The trail goes for 10-15 miles one way.
You could also run out by Blue Spruce Lake, there are lots of trails there, though that is about a 5-6 mile drive from campus. Lots of people just run on the sidewalk as well around campus or around town.

Ok. Thank you very much.
Your information has convinced me. If Indiana is like you say, I will go almost sure.
How is the party there?
