I actually was in the 'Port on Sunday and me and my friends did a lot of exploring on foot. I was impressed by the downtown and its' big city feel, with the small-town charm. All in all people were friendly. A few people (maybe 1 or 2 out of like 100 I came in contact with) were kind of ignorant, but I don't let a few bad apples spoil the bunch (I'm used to ignorant snobs, seeing that I presently live in Philipsburg). I definitely am leaning much closer to Williamsport now that I think of it.
I also did a little exploring at Lycoming (where my mother is a proud graduate, class of '78) and near Penn as well. Nice areas.
That Bullfrog Brewery also comes highly recommended by a good friend of mine, for the record. :-)

Yes, the Bullfrog Brewery is some pretty good eats! I dined there for lunch during my Williamsport Photo Tour. The people I meet on my travels in North Central Pennsylvania truly are a rare breed. From Lewisburg to Selinsgrove to Williamsport people are just generally very friendly.

The Bullfrog is not too bad. I'd say 3 out of 5 stars. They make their own root beer which is pretty decent.
My new favorite place is one that just opened called Vincenzo's. Small, clean, well decorated, simple. Sit down place with perfect thin crust Pizza including a personal size(which I like because everyone can get what they want), good subs and some pasta dishes. Desserts are good and prices are just right.
Another favorite is Maseto's. Good prices, simple sandwiches and soups. I like it because I can get a really good grilled cheese there on homemade bread.
There is also a New Mexican restaurant in town but it's always hard to eat there because they have narrow hours and it fills up.

I agree. Wilkes-Barre and Scranton are happening places compared to tired old Williamsport. The big problem I always saw with Williamsport is that it is not near anything interesting. If you like fishing and hunting and the quiet life, then Williamsport is fine.

Williamsport has its fair share of "happenings." My first off-Broadway experience was a road trip with high school friends to see RENT at the Community Arts Center. The mural on the side wall of the Bullfrog Brewery showcases Williamsport as being a city proud of its heritage yet ready to embrace the diversity of its future. Each late-summer the city comes alive with tens of thousands who visit for the Little League World Series. The historic district just to the west of downtown is one of the largest and most gorgeous I've ever seen. The people are genuinely friendly and down-to-earth. When people in town sensed that I was a "tourist" (albeit just from Scranton) they went out of their way to make me feel welcomed.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre has much more "stuff" because we have a much denser population base to support these amenities, but don't discount the quality-of-life available in North Central Pennsylvania. We here in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre may be at the doorstep of New York City and Philadelphia, but you in Williamsport have the PA Grand Canyon, U.S. Route 6, the NY Finger Lakes, State College, and many other awesome destinations at your fingertips. Lewisburg is a model American town if I ever saw one, and with the help of people like Dawne I feel as if Selinsgrove will be that way someday too.

If you don't like State College, you should go to Philly or Wilkes Barre - at least then you are on the 95 corridor and can get to the Jersey shore/NYC/Baltimore/DC/major airports fairly easily...

If you don't like State College, I don't know what on earth would make you think you'd like Williamsport.
SC is way more oriented towards the younger crowd with much more to do.
Williamsport has more crime and run down areas. The only "pluses" to W-Port is that they have a bigger mall area and their downtown has a tall commercial building or two. That's it.
For population reference:
Williamsport: 29,537
State College: 39,893
(Permanent Residents, 2007...Keeping in mind that the number in State College more than doubles during the school year)
You really only have two options. 1. Move closer to State College. I can see why you are "bored" of the SC area when you live all the way out in Philipsburg. There are plenty of affordable housing areas in SC. 2. If you can't handle a city the size of either, move to Harrisburg, Philly, or Pitt metro.

DO NOT MOVE TO WILLIAMSPORT!!!!!!
All the horror stories are true. No jobs unless you are in the medical field, lots of crime, nothing to do........ it sucks.
Go elsewhere.
