For buildings, Harrisburg. For setting, Erie. Overall: Harrisburg then Erie. They are the only two with settings appropriate for a city. After that it's a toss up... they all just look like similar mountain towns.
Sure I'm partial to Reading cause I live here, but it still has an impressive skyline left from the glory days of decades ago. Except for the state capital, only Allentown has a building taller than Reading's Berks County Courthouse. There is a very dense downtown with several more modern low to midrise structures and the Doubletree planned will add to that. With all the problems this city has had it seems surprising that there are plans for some other projects. Truthfully, I like the layout of Scranton and Wilkes-Barre; and Johnstown may be one of the better small cities in the state appearance-wise. I'm a city-lover (even the moribund ones) so I am glad I found this site with so many people posting great pix. By the way I'm barely computer literate but I have photos to post; can somebody tell me how and how do I know what my URL is?
I am pretty sure the picture of Harrisburg is dated because I think it is missing the new Harrisburg University building which is approximately 16 stories. According to the Central Penn Business Journal the Hersha REIT, which was founded here, is still planning to break ground on the Aloft Hotel on the Belco site this spring. All of the demolition was completed.
The picture used for Allentown only shows the Albertus L. Meyers Bridge with the PPL building in the far background. It does not depict downtown Allentown and it's skyline.
You can't get this anywhere in Pa EXCEPT Erie!! Click it for enlarged pic. This is a prime example of why we have the 2nd best sunsets in the USA, Honolulu being 1st.
