Erie. Can't beat that view from out by the Perry monument across the bay. The tower at Dobbins Landing is unique, and makes the skyline distinctive. The picture posted doesn't quite do this view justice.

Yeah, a lot of the city is very rundown. Its the buckle of the rustbelt. A lot is ugly, but so are most old Pennsylvania cities and townz. Erie lost a lot of its tall buildings in teh 1970s and 80s to the demoliton crew. but still is mos def in top 5 in state, you kidding me? The only place with a better skyline i the capital, Harrisburg. A'town's got one tall building. Scranton-WB... boring and short. Reading... okay, but downtown area is small. Eries setting and buildings make a better skylie by far than those cities.

[quote=danwxman;7599809]Erie has a LOT of work to do to get up to par with other mid-sized cities in the stae. The downtown is filled with parking lots, ultra-wide one-way avenues quote]

In some wayz, yeah it does. But its location has got it all over any other city in the state. Why would anyone wanna live Scranton-WB, Allentown, Harrsburg, Reading, Lanceaster, Altoona, etc, etc, etc., etc?.....boooooring, landlocked, isolated towns that all look tha same. if you cant live on the east coast, gotta live on the great lakes. what good is a river, especially one like the susquehanna that you cant have a boat on... what a shame

too many parking lotz tho... but their buildin townhoises and other new developments aer planned all over downtown

It is the Flagship of the U.S. tall war ships from 1812 , the Brig. Niagara. It makes tours around the Eastern seaboard just about every year, but it's home...as was the fleet for that war, is here in Erie.

Had Erie not been here to house, build the fleet, with our natural harbor Presque Isle Bay, the War of 1812 would have been drastically different!

Where the city is in tact it is nice and of course the scenery is gorgeous. But a lot of the city is quite ugly and if we are talking skylines then Erie is probably not even top 5 in the whole state...the office buildings near the waterfront more resemble a suburban office park then anything else.

Wow, you have some ill feelings toward Erie. Do you need to talk to Dr. Phil?

LOL.

I've said this before to bozo's who keep mocking Erie for having some surface level parking lots....

IT'S GREAT!!

It's a sign that someone was thinking clearly and didn't build so densely and in a City the size of Erie and how old Erie is, to have accommodations like that is awesome.

See, what's great about large open lots, is that if you need that land for something it's available, however if you need the land that a 6 story parking garage is on....the cost outweighs the project to tear it down.

We got room to grow and not feel cramped....why you hatin'?

This is one area where Erie stands out refreshingly from the rest of similar-sized cities in the state -- it's not all cramped and claustrophobic.

Why live in the eastern cities? Better economy and proximity to the largest metropolitan areas in the U.S. 'Nuff said really.

And, you certainly can have boats on the Susquehanna. Tons of people do. There are several boating docks on City Island and the "Pride of the Susquehanna Riverboat" which gives tours. I am not going to get into silly city versus city stuff here, I have nothing against Erie. Just think people need to chill with the Erie worship here.

I do not have ill feelings towards Erie. Maybe you need to look at my other posts where I said I love Erie and am a strong supporter of any place in Pennsylvania

You on the other hand are a blind worshipper of anything Erie and have dissed every other city in the state. That, my friend, is not cool. Having pride in your city is cool, but you shouldn't bash other parts of the state in the process.

And you claim that Erie's strength is that it has surface parking lots? LOL You do realize of course that Erie was once dense and those were all beautiful buildings that were torn down?

Are you dense or something??!!?? You actually think those parking lots have always been there? Erie used to have a really dense (like you) downtown, but much of the city was torn down is stupid redevelop projects. Thats what happened all over the US in the 60s and 70s but Erie got it really bad. Erie needs more density. hopefully all those plans to developp the downtown happen.
