PA does have some bad roads but you have to give them some credit. There's more miles in PA than New York and all the New England states combined.

I-81 will take you all the way through Upstate NY and into Canada---not too terribly far from Ottawa. Alaska? Do you honestly realize just how FAR it is from Ottawa to Anchorage?
MAPQUEST:
74 hours, 5 minutes
4,076 miles

I got lucky, I guess. I typed in "Ottawa, ON" to "Anchorage, AK" in the directions, and that's what it spit back out to me. I think that was miles, but now that you mention it it could have very well been kilometers (either way it is NOT feasible to drive up I-81 to Canada and then book it west across the ENTIRE CONTINENT to Alaska!)

It can be done, just take one of the Trans-Canadian highways out west and then the Alaskan highway up.

74 hours and 5 minutes? I bet if you drive a little faster you can save those 5 minutes!

Wow, I would hate to see the fuel bill for a trip like that! It would almost be better to sell your car, buy a plane ticket, and get a new car once you got there!

I drove from Anchorage, Ak to Burlington, Vt in 2005. We opted to travel through the states versus taking the Trans Canada to see some sights (though we did cut across at the UP of Michigan and re enter at Niagara). It's a great trip if you allow yourself the time to slow down and see things along the way, otherwise it's just a long, long drive if you are in a hurry.
