Geography is a big interest of mine, so even though I've never been to the Burgh, I know the neighborhoods/schools relatively well.

That's a proper response. If one has enough real confidence in their area then they wouldn't spend most of their time trying to knock down every criticism of the place, which truthfully I've only seen with this place so far.
Although it was observed this place has one of the largest concentrations of lawyers in the country so that might have something to do with it...just brushing up

Sounds like the problem is you more than your location.

Nocturnal rooster, I Completely agree. I lived in Upper Darby and while the people are ok it was a dump and Harrisburg people seriously could not get any more rude and the wages are a joke.

Default Belated thoughts, Thread bump-up

Sorry for not posting more to this thread in so long, just had a tough time getting around to it.

To be honest, there is not a whole lot more that I can say that hasn't been said already by me on this board as to why I dislike PA. That's another reason why I haven't said anything else until now.

I still feel that most pro-PA people look at this state through rose colored glasses, and have poor social skills. And this shows in the sense that most PA residents seem angry and/or depressed the majority of the time. Yet, they will defend this state to the death when someone actually has the guts to come out and say that they dislike PA. I suspect sometimes that alot of Pennsylvanians secretly don't like it here and want to leave, but act as thought they like PA so as not to ruffle any feathers. I, on the other hand, have always felt that I need to be honest when it comes to things like this.

Plus, all of the economic depression and crappy weather play a role too. The last two spring seasons here in PA, for example, have been nothing but gray and rainy. Always raining or threatening to rain. Today is actually pretty nice and sunny. Hopefully we'll buck the trend and it'll stay that way. But, given dismal PA weather, we'll likely see gray and rainy soon enough.

Yes, there are places with worse economies, worse weather, worse people(although not much worse!). But, it is said that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. And these things cumulatively make PA the septic tank of the nation.

If you like it here, great! That is YOUR choice! Just like the things outlined above are mine.

-Country people who live and act like "poor white trash". Y'know, can't hold a job, abuse gov't and state welfare programs, conceive kids at an alarming rate when they can't even BEGIN to afford them, almost always in some kind of trouble with the law, etc.. Usually live in some trailer park way up in the mountains or back in the woods. Have no self-respect or dignity, and it shows in their actions and the way they live their lives.

-Industrial laborers who are so into the blue collar macho tough guy lifestyle that their job isn't just their job, it's their whole life and identity. Spend a good bit of their off time at the bar, club, VFW, etc. drinking. Sometimes show bully tendencies and pick fights with people. A prime example is construction workers here working on PA's badly deteriorated roads. Always cursing, telling dirty jokes, sometimes even outright picking on and mocking motorists who are stopped in their workzones.
What confuses me is that there is exactly no need for you to encounter any of these people. Yes, we have these people. Many members of each of the groups you identify will vigorously defend their lifestyle. Are they forcing their lifestyles on to you? Other states have such people too. This entire thing reads like a poorly-thought out stereotype.

Of course we do. It's our home. Can you blame us? You're looking through mud-covered glasses.

Sir. This is a vicious ad hominem, and it has no place in a thread meant to be reasonable. If you want to know why threads get closed, I would say that comments like this one are a perfect example.
