Have you considered a gap year? http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/15/jobs/15pre.html or perhaps city year? City Year. give a year. change the world. Taking a year off to work is a great idea but maybe you want to make it more meaningful...

Johnstown is a great place to live. It is growing again with plenty of jobs here and more coming. You need to take a look.

To the original poster:

If you don't have any kind of degree beyond high school, you will probably have a difficult time finding a good job. The economy is better in the southeastern part of PA, but the cost of living is also higher.

I think you might be making a big mistake trying to go to a totally new place without having some kind of education beyond high school.

You should definitely have some kind of job lined up BEFORE you move.
