Question low taxes--- retire

hi.. does anyone know a nice place in PA that has low taxes and affordable homes? (and of course, SAFE) my kids live in bucks county but, we can't afford to live in that area on a fixed income. we want to be within hours of them but, have no idea where to start to look.

all and any info. would be helpful.

thanks.

BigBuddy is an unknown quantity at this point
Scranton is off your list for sure they have implemented a 25% tax increase for this year and there will be an additional 25% for next two years as well.

In 3 yrs it will be a 94.5% total tax increase in the city of Scranton.

Butler County, but it's pretty far from Bucks County.

I'd try Snyder, Union, Northumberland, Montour and Columbia counties. Very beautiful farmland country with good restaurants and shopping fairly close. Housing prices and taxes are reasonable (we pay about $1300 a year on a $100,000 3 BR 1 BA 1500 SF house with an attached 1-car garage). You can find some homes for under $100,000 but most run around $150,000 or more for a nice house. The cheaper ones are older homes or "fixer-uppers".
