I grew up in Cape May NJ area and like Oxford it was a small town. I couldn't wait to get out and exsperience the big city! First I lived in a big North Jersey city and loved all the shopping but you become a little fish in a big sea. I then moved to a burb city in PA with very good schools and plenty of shopping along with plenty of crime and drugs! My husband and I then decided to make a move to Oxford where it is a small town but being a transplant I found the locals to be extremely helpful in locating stores and getting bargins. I believe school is what you make of it and therefore if your child applies themseleves they will go far. There are good and bad teachers where ever you go. The perks are your neighbors aren't on top of you and beautiful scenery. There are a lot of activities for the kids so they don't have to get into gangs. As far as the smells I only smell the bad smells maybe 2x a year and I have ac so it does,t bother me. I think Oxford is a great place to raise your kids. I am also very involved with my children. If you want you children to be strong leaders its up to us as parents to guide them.Maybe one day some of you will learn to appricate the small town community and all the support it can give. Businesses are booming and more jobs are being created. We even have a local technical college, starbuck, new Mexican resturant. All of that is in Jennersville but it is only 10 min. away.If your looking to buy go to the Oxford diner and talk to the locals.

Thumbs down Oxford is one of the worst towns in Chester County

I was born and raised for 10 years in delaware county and if I could get the chance (if it wasn't for crime) I'd move back in a heart beat. I'm currently 16 years old and when I was 10 i moved to Oxford, PA. I was a student at the highschool and you can't take it better from anyone else when I tell you my experience as student. Don't get me wrong the gradeschools were beautiful. Wonderful teachers and the kids were very polite. But as soon as middle school hit it was all down hill. Nobody in Oxford cares about what their kids do. Or atleast id say the native oxfordians. The majority of kids smoke, do drugs, drink, party, have sex, etc. all the bad things you could think of. Theres hardly any good kids in oxford. And the cliques. Oh their terrible you have 1 percent of the school who are nice kids but then half of them get changed into something rotten cause they want to "fit" in. The majority of teachers, staff, administration, at the High school don't care about anyone! They spent a whole bunch of money on a new highschool and obsurd necessities that we still need money? How does that make sense. They don't use their money wisely. Most of the teachers don't teach. Now remember I know this from experience so you can trust me. I'm an honor student and love education. The food in the highschool is terrible and expensive! The principle is very rude! We tried to show school spirit for a pep ralley and he canceled it! The poor seniors don't have that special memory to graduate with. The adminstration likes to have authority and do what THEY want. They also hire anybody they can get since Oxford is one of the lowest paying school districts. The chuches aren't even that great! Their so clicky and get involved with political things, thats not what a church is about! Oxford just seems like a backwards town and if your not native from here, well you can forget it, because Oxfordites (as you would call them) stick together with their kind. Their not open to change, their very close minded people, their very awkward. The cops don't even do their job! They pay attention to the minor things EVEN IF OXFORD IS KNOWN FOR DRUGS! They don't care the health and safety of others. They just like to bust chops since they have a badge that gives them the right to pull people over and be a bigshot. Half of the cops just sit around in their police cars and talk on their cellphones, talk to eachother and don't even pay attention. The other half pull over innocent people for forgetting to turn on the turn signal or make house calls to minor complaints about a teenager pulling a small prank on a neighbor which is barely harmless. Oxford is really, truly ridiculous. Lets just put it this way if you have a family don't move here cause if any of you are in trouble..don't expect anyone to help you. If your Christian...don't move here cause almost all of the people here are Atheist. If your looking for good friends don't move here cause everyone will stab you in the back. (figurative speech) All around if your a nice person who wants a nice life please for my sake and yours don't move here. As soon as I'm old enough I'm moving out. But lets say your a cold, heartless, noncaring person, then oxford is right for you!

I lived in oxford for five years now. Was very impressed with the progress my two step sons made in elemetry and middle school. But when my oldest got to high school I had to ask myself if I made right choice in what town i bought my house. Has anyone ever asked themself whats the differance between schools today and schools twenty years ago. well i have and i think its the teaching staff. back then a teacher tought because they had a passion to make a differance in a childs life. it shurly wasn't becauce the pay was great. Teachers average salery today is 56,000.00 a year and yes their work year is about 225 days a year. and it seems that they only want to teach the smart or easy kids and as soon as a child has trouble or needs a little special attention they want to suggest riddlen or some other drug to make the child a zombie in the back of the class THATS BULL****........If i had the option to get the 3900.00 in school taxes and put my kids in private school would do it in a second

Oxford is in fact a very stagnant town. Progress is frowned upon and fresh new ideas are not encouraged. I moved here to keep to myself and that's what I found. When I did try to volunteer at some school and outside functions I found some resistance. I think you'll find that anywhere but in Oxford you sense that some of the locals just don't want you there. I don't mean the farmers necessarily but the locals that have had family in the town for years. Oxford has a wide range of ethnicity and income. Your going to have issues with that type of chemistry. The OASD is not great but I don't think it's as bad as people think. The principal is an (ex-marine) and he does have his hands full but he's not very good with the students or parents. The school board is in chaos and lacks real leadership from it's President. The sports programs generally lack a real competitive edge though they do excel at some. That I think comes from the school board and their lack of appreciation for competitive sports programs and school pride, not the A.D. The entire area is in a transitionary stage but it will take time. The potential for Oxford to thrive is outstanding but they have to get over their old way of doing business. Would I move here again? The price for the houses and taxes in 1999 could not be beat. The schools and parent involvement have gotten better. The influx of new business has gotten a little better but still needs to be addressed to find that balance. Crime and drugs do exist here but I've paid attention to my kids, now 22 and 18 and have stayed clear of any major problems. They do become teenagers eventually and do push the limits. The roads are a concern as a parent because the teens really drive to aggressive for the conditions. It seems every year a tragic accident takes place. Oxford's transition will take time, the question is do you want to be a part of it. Slow progress versus peacefully living. Increasing higher taxes versus a school system working to do better. A tolerance for ethnic and income diversity. A longer drive time for work versus a relaxing time at home. Location planted near tax free shopping Delaware, outlet shopping Lancaster. Two big cities Phila. 65 mins and Baltimore 80 mins. Two great college towns U of D 20 mins., West Chester Univ.40 mins. The indifference and lack of cohesiveness amongst the people does get old and in fact I am ready to move. I still feel it was the best thing for my family in 1999 and still has much to offer those that want change.
