Well, state police was at the bottom of the hill, and all 3 got tickets, one had to step out of the car, because she was getting "lippy" with the state trooper. Us and all other drivers in the lane were cheering, and giving the troopers the thumbs up!
Such behavior can't be tolerated, especially not in conditions we have had. People should know better.....

Well, bless their l'il ole hearts! I guess some are simply more important than the rest of us. How awful the SHP didn't realize just how special these people are - what an inconvenience to be in line

I'm not trying to downplay the seriousness of how this affected everyone in this area, and I do sympathize particularly with the people stuck on the turnpike. My idea of HELL on earth!!
Other than that, though, honestly, coming from Canada, this all seems so ridiculous to me. My kids had three days off school! Now I can see the first day - the roads were terrible... but yesterday and today??? everything was melting away, the roads were drivable, we don't live near the turnpike... not too sure what the reasoning was.
I don't think we EVER had even one snow day where I lived... city buses ran through the snowy streets, admittedly with problems at times. I suppose the difference is that there they actually have people who know (somewhat LOL) what they're doing plowing the roads... although I have to say I spent many a day getting stuck, boosted, etc. - it's more just a fact of life for us, and we just carry on - any employer would LAUGH in your face if you didn't show up for work due to weather - I'm not exaggerating here. Anyone from Saskatchewan can corroborate this! You just roll with the punches, and if you have to leave earlier, you do. If you have to drive through ruts and slippery roads... you do it. It's not that bad once you have a bit of practice.
I suppose what I'm trying to say is - yes it's a pain in the behind, but just be glad it is such an anomaly here, having what isn't even that much snow. It could be much worse, trust me on this one

Hi.. Movingback2Pa...
I live in PSL/FLa as well. I live in Beech mountain lakes (Drums, Pa) in the summer. I can't wait to go back already. I just purchased my home last summer and only got to stay in it 2 months b4 I had to go back to (Fla) work.
As a neighbor of yours down hereI KNOW why you're moving back there. If I didn't have my own business and the ability to go back and forth I'd move back full time too. Good luck with the move.

OMG...is this a SMALL WORLD, or what????
WE lived in Beech Mountain b4 we moved here to PSLousy!!! LOL
On Buck Ridge Drive....LOL
Is Chris still at the Guard House??? LOL
Yup, we are definately moving back, that's 100% certain, and just as fast our house will sell. We will leave FL for the people who are able and willing to pay for it (which excludes us).
We just got back at 5:30 am this morning, since it took us 3 hours just to get to Harrisburg, due to all Interstates being closed. So, on backways we went, and that took just a heck of a long time. But, we made it in one piece, even though the roads were at some points absolutely dangerous, to say the least. We got spoiled again with being up there in PA (Hazleton). People ARE so much friendlier then down here, so much more down to earth.... It's just so easy to get used to.....the friendlyness, and then coming back here....huh.
I miss my rolling hills, my mountains, my "Sheetz" coffee (*g*), my snaps bread, my "porketta", old coal breakers, the snow....LOL!!! (I know, I sound crazy to some, but for me, these are the simple pleasures of my life, and my "quality" standart for my life)
We hooked up with some friends, and are surprised on how funny they are, how "human", how humble, and how POSITIVE. Seems like everything is getting kind of "lost" down here in FL. So, yeah, we are moving ASAP.
Another funny thing I'd like to point out, if I may...a lot of people claim and say, that they prefer a hurricane over a Nor'eastern (their perogative, and that's fine). But, I haven't seen ANY MASS EVACUATIONS yet, due to a Nor'eastern coming through. Have you???

I was stuck on 476 for about an hour, 2 miles from my exit during the storm.... road conditions were the worst I have ever seen in my life, I really am not sure why there was no show removal equipment in use the day of the storm, but the entire road from Allentown to Wilkes-Barre was an un-plowed un salted 6” sheet of ice. The old FWD Pontiac with a quality set of all-season tires was real sloppy, I saw several CRASHED and stuck 4WD and AWD vehicles from marker 70 to marker 105. the worst was the chunks of ice that you would hit, it felt like I was hitting a 6" curb on each impact that would try to get the car sideways. After a few good slams that nearly sent me onto the wall, I slowed it down from about 40 to 25.
anyway, I am glad I was able to get out when I did, if I had been on that road about an hour later, I'd probably would have been stuck for a day. Most of the problem was when these trucks had to stop on the road due to a stuck or crashed vehicle, they just can't get going again, especially when they have been sitting on a sheet of ice for a day... If pendot had PLOWED before the snow turned into a compacted sheet of ice, there would not have even been a problem. I think they were waiting to plow till it was DONE snowing due to laziness, but by that time, it was a sheet of ice, you can’t plow ice. Really, I put the blame 100% on PENDOT, it’s as if they have never handled a snowstorm before.

I agree, and now "passing the bock" is the name of the game right now. We have had some pretty wicked snow storms we have mastered in the past. Why the chaos, and clueness this time?!
Can't wait to find out on who dropped the ball... But, also hope, they will take appropriate measures for the next storm, and learn from the huge mistake they did this time.

it was probably whom ever handled the regional management of the highway plows. I think they were holding off till the snow had stopped so they would not have to do multiple rounds... that sure blew up in their face when everyone got stuck and crashed all over the highways that turned into ice sheets...
