what I can tell you about Renovo
I do not live in Renovo, but I visit there often since both my grandparents and great grand parents live in Renovo.
They do have a hospital it is located at the very bottom of the hill in South Renovo. It even has a nursing home wing where my Great grandmother comfortably resides. I know they have at least one general practitioner in Renovo, I have heard mixed reviews of his practice. I believe there is a dentist but I am not sure.
I am not sure what you would consider high taxes, I will inquire of family there to get you figures, but by comparison to the philadelphia area the taxes in Renovo are fairly low.
Some homes in Renovo and the surrounding area do require flood insurance, due to their proximity to the river, but many other homes are elevated on the mountain, so you will have to look at individual homes on a case by case basis.
I don't think Renovo has a library, if they do it is not large enough to have been noticed in any of my hours there, and I am a nerd who would have gladly found a library during the long hours of visiting with older relatives.
Last I checked there is only dial up interenet access in Renovo.
I know they have cable, and I am fairly certain you can get dish of some kind. (only saving grace on those visits)
I have never heard of the town flooding in any dramatic fashion. Homes on the river are of course prone to high water levels just like anywhere, but I have never had my grandparents complain that the town was flooded. Snowed in frequently, flooded never.
Part time employment is possible for petty cash, but career style employment is limited. The hospital being the best choice...if you are in the medical field.
Many people commute to Lock Haven.
There is no asian cuisine. There are I think 4 restaurants in Renovo proper. You can't even get a good slice of pizza.
There are several bars.
I can think of three hotels in the area. Sportsmans is on the edge of town. Just up the road a ways is a bed and breakfast and what used to be Summerson's motel. (The motel recently was sold, but will still be operating I just don't know the new name.)
Sproul and Hyner are both close by, and there are some smaller patches of protected land.
Snow Fall changes from year to year, but it can be considerable. A few years ago they got away with only 4 or 5 inches. I know about a decade ago the road to lock haven was snowed in for a week.
No 24 hour stores to my knowledge, instead many stores close early.
Car repair facilities are in town. Not sure how many, but more than one.
The natives are very nice. As for transplants...my grandmother had difficulty moving back to Renovo until she mentioned her maiden name and Renovo Pedigree. It will be difficult at first, but the people are very nice once they calm down. They don't have to deal with much change and it takes them awhile to adjust.
They have a Catholic parish that is quite nice, and several protestant parishes in town. All are very active in the community and provide an avenue for transplant residents to make social inroads. Orthodox christians will be riding over mountains to get to a parish. Non Christians are out of luck.
There is some variety, but predominently caucasian.
No emissions testing.
The grocery store in town is Bilo. There are a few privately owned quick mart type stores outside of town on the main road and a privately owned pharmacy. Big name chain stores (walmart etc.) are in Lock Haven, State College, Bellefonte and Williamsport.

Lodging in Renovo
Hello. My husband will be traveling to your area in 6-8 weeks. We will be staying in your area for 6-7 months with his job. I am trying to find lodging that will accomodate us and my daughter. (Seperate quarters, she is 13) I would appreciate any help that anyone could provide for me. The internet hasn't been very helpful. Thanking you in advance, Alisha

try sportsman's on the edge of town. (570) 923-9968 ac, cable, food, not too bad, the lodging itself was OK, the price was like 35 - 40 bucks a night. there are about 3 other ones in the area, but i dont think they're open just yet (maybe summer)

I've driven through Renovo a few times. The natural suroundings of the area are very beautiful and wild, I think it's awesome. But Renovo to me looks like a bad mini chunk of a large city. The houses are so incredibly close together and mostly in very poor shape, it just doesn't fit the area or other towns in the area or most PA small towns. But that's just the impression I get driving through the town along rt. 120. I'm guessing that that this is a former mining town with little industry left. I hope the city improves with more investment into the PA Wilds, there is a lot of potential.

When we use to Canoe the western branch of the Susquehanna we used to put in at Renovo. There's a little store there that would drive our cards down to Karthaus where we'd get out. Nice people and the cars were always left in good shape.
