Another thing to consider is living in Middletown or Hummelstown--they have good schools, as well as Mechanicsburg area.

We're still waiting to hear about an offer for our family, although it looks as if we're going to Ontario. We have an upcoming senior and junior in high school, and two middle schoolers. We haven't been too impressed w/the housing situation in York county at all. The job is located right off of 83 in Lewisberry so we could go either way.

Bottom line w/schools in the greater H'burg/York area--unless it's an inner city or extremely-religious area (like Dover), for the most part these schools are all pretty good. You really should match up the programs your kids are interested in and not just what Great Schools says. I say that because our kids go to all '10', A-rated schools right now and they have their problems too. Take it all with a huge grain of salt.

I personally wouldn't put my children in West Schools primarily because there are such better alternatives.

When we moved to York 4 years ago from a major city, schools was my number one priority. We have 4 kids. Dallastown, Suburban and Central were our top picks. I found alot of houses in West York that I really liked, but after talking to many people about the schools in that area, my husband and I decided on Dallastown. We live right on the border of Suburban, off the Queen Street exit off 83. That would be a EASY commute to work for you: 83N to 30E. The houses in our area have lots of Colonial Charm, built by the doctors of York Hospital years ago, so quality construction. We love the area and wouldn't trade our 40 year old quality built home and Dallastown school district for a new home for ANYTHING!

Good luck on your house hunting trip!

Default I'm a Yorker? Yorkian? Yorkite?

Ok, I bought a house! I'm excited. We checked out lake Marburg which was the most beautiful drive. I love York and our new home! So, what are we called now? Yorkers?
