John Murtha (D) Pennsylvania is probably the most obnoxious man in the Congress, which is remarkable when you consider it also contains Nancy Pelosi and Barney Frank. When John Murtha is not accusing Marines of war crimes, he is accusing his own constituents of racism.
John Murtha, who has been in the Congress since the Ford Administration, usually wins reelection against nominal opponents by wide margins based on his ability to bring the pork home to the 12 District of Pennsylvania. John Murtha even survived his involvement in the Abscam scandal, thanks in large part to the intervention of Tip O'Neil.
A recent Susquehanna Poll, which places John Murtha less than five points over his current opponent, retired Army officer William Russell, gives hope that John Murtha's luck may at last have run out. This margin is about the lowest John Murtha has endured for decades and suggests that his sharp tongue may have damaged his reelection prospects.

Murtha is an exact example of what is stinking up congress right now. Excessive pork barrel spending and holier than thou attitudes. I hope the voters in that district turn him out on the street.

I live in the hometown of his district. I'm frankly tired of the man. He's outlasted his worthiness. I fully intend on voting for the opposition. Around here, though, I'm in the minority. Our local paper just had an article that showcased folks in this region still support him, regardless of his antics. All they see is green. What they don't understand is for all the green he's spread around here over the years, we're still an economically stagnant area. It doesn't add up, does it?

I don't understand how he can keep winning re-election by continuing to pander to the far-left radicals in the Democrat party. Western PA is blue-collar Democrat, not Berkely Democrat.

"Obnoxious"? What legitimate news source uses such biased language in a news article?
Oh wait -- the author, Mark Whittington, isn't unbiased, and definitely not a legitimate news source. Do a Google search on the author of the article, and you'll come across his blog, which shows his clear right-wing bias.
ProudCapMarine, stop wasting your time reading (and posting) dreck from Associated Content and take a look at the Economist, which definitely is a right-leaning publication, but one that most intelligent people, myself included, consider a reputable and legitimate news source.
As for Rep. Murtha's election bid....I'll bet $100 that he sails through this election with a comfortable lead. The only way Murtha is leaving office is in a coffin.
