Smile HELP! Are the people of Philadelphia friendly?

Hi, I'm graduating from High School this year. I'm an international student in Europe and don't really know where home is.

I'm off to university this next year and trying to find where is the place for me - maybe PA is the place!? What is most important to me about a place is the people, people from differant areas truely think differantly - and it sounds like those from Pittsburgh and Philadelphia are pretty friendly.

I know a few people from Boston and it seems that everyone there is too concered with being 'proper' to talk to strangers, or be friendly, that is a problem for me. Are the people from PA similiar, what about Pittsburgh VS Philly? I would appreciate any information you have to share, thanks!

More friendly than Bostonians, but don't necessarily expect us to go out of our way while you're walking down the street or something.

I haven't had the pleasure of visiting Pittsburgh but I lived in Philly for 37 years and I can tell you the citizens are friendly, down to earth and hate phony, lazy people. They are generous with their money and time, and they always "have your back".

lol they weren't so friendly or "had my back" when someone broke into my car or when someone broke into my brother's apartment.

But the point being that there is crime everywhere, in any city, just as there are friendly and unfriendly people in any city. I don't think a city can be wholly defined as more or less friendly than any other city - but I do think individual neighborhoods or communities within a city can be defined as more or less friendly than other neighborhood or communities within that same city or other cities.

I'm not talking about the trash that committed those crimes, PA. I'm saying, in general, the Philadelphians that I know are decent, hard working, caring people. We all looked out for each other, and we helped each other out if one of us became a victim of crime. Unlike the town I live in now, no one in Philly cares where you came from.

The operative phrase being "used to be."

what alternate Philly universe are you living in.. no one "has your back" .. it's everyone for themselves in Philly.. Who had my back while i got jumped by three guys for a video camera, while about 300 people watched it happen. and no one talked to the police after it happened.

the only way that Philly people "have your back" is when they're talking about it to a friend as you walk away.. lol or they want something from you or need a favor, then they're your best friend in the world..
