Nice older quiet town. The schools are solid middle of the pack for Delaware County. Nice vareity of housing stock. Avg house probably in the $225K - $350K range depending on how big, newness etc. Tons of traffic on the commercial streets.

springfield has a lot of traffic, in my opinion is overpopulated, schools are good but used to be and could be better (though this is everywhere unless you have the money for Shipley and the likes). the problem is springfield is only about 15 miles or so from Philadelphia and is very accessible by public transportation. this coupled with the fact that there is a mall and a few shopping areas means that some undesirables will commute to the area for shopping, work, etc. this has the tendency to spill over a bit. its not the worst though so dont let me scare you away, its not a ghetto by any means but the area isnt my first choice. there are good points though since it is a diverse area and if you are working in the city the commute is good

I find this response so far off the mark that I have to reply
even though it's months old!
Springfield is still a very nice area. Yes, it has a lot of traffic, but the whole Phila metro area is bothered by increased traffic.
Springfield, I believe has a pretty decent median income, somewhere around $75,000 and that's well above the PA average.
Also, in reference to what's posted above, it's not really diverse, the population is like 96% white.

My niece graduated #11 in her class of over 400 from Springfield High School, had enough AP credits to start college as a sophomore and finished college with a triple major in three years. She attributes it to the opportunity and education she received from Springfield Public Schools. Solid community, my brother purchased his home in 1993 for $135K, has done very little in the way of improvements (general upkeep only) and it's now appraised at over $300K. Nice neighborhood, within walking distance to stores, mall and train station.

THANK YOU!!! I heartily agree. Born and raised in Springfield, and my elderly parents are still there, so I'm there at least 3 times a week. Yes, it's much more crowded than it used to be, and overdevelopment has shown its ugly head as in other towns, but it's still solid with some truly gorgeous older homes as well as some moderate to new construction. As a teacher, who has taught in many DELCO districts, I would say that Springfield is an above-average district, certainly a notch above Ridley and Penn-Delco (Aston). The single homes currently range from approx 250 - 500K (new construction) with many architectural diversities, particularly in the historic area where one can find a selection of Arts & Crafts, Dutch Colonials & English cottages.
