I'll be driving to my mom's in Erie; 6 hours and 45 minutes, 415 miles, if I take 1-80; 7 1/2 hours and 430 miles if I take I-86 (which is a much saner route -- fewer hills/mountains, much less traffic and very few trucks -- but if my car were to slide off the road no one would find me for days! ).

Wow, not a close trip for you at all. You'll have a full day of travel there. I hope you head out early so you have an extra day if the weather is bad.

I was blessed (or is it cursed) with my late Nana's ability to cook a great meal that everyone enjoys, therefore without fail, my home will become the gathering spot for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Christmas Eve I spend with my Dad & step-mom as I have since I was only 10 years old. They usually do a little cooking and cater everything else. I usually make a dessert or two or three...

We will be traveling to my mom's house for both Turkey Day and Christmas. Both my husband's and my family live in the Panther Valley area (Nesquehoning, Summit Hill), so we get to see everybody for the holidays.
We've been doing that for so long now, it's tradition to pack up and head out and part of the holiday fun for us!!

We are taking the immediate family (my kids, husband and dog) to the Berkshires for Thanksgiving weekend. My husband sees this as a learning experience, since I want to move away from family and friends. He thinks that I am going to go to MA. and cry because I am not home stuffing a turkey for 30 family members. He doesn't realize I want to move so I never have to do a holiday for anyone but my kids again! Forget polishing silver I want to go walk in the woods with real turkeys!

Gosh, please post how this went. Quite an interesting story.
Walking with real turkeys, so cute............Yes I see herds (?) of them each day in the fields. One day a group of them almost flew into our car, maybe even into our car window......
But, I get ya'.......that sounds relaxing to me. Sure does!
