It looks like you can get more home for your money in both Waterford and Edinboro than you can in Millcreek. Is this because both are a bit removed from Erie?

I want something with some acreage(5-10+). I currently live in Hanover,Pa. but housing and land prices here have skyrocketed. I visited Erie last summer for a week and again on Labor day and really like the area. And being within an hour or so from Pittsburgh ,Cleveland, Buffalo is a plus too. So I am looking to relocate any help that anyone can offer would be appreciated.
Don't move to Albion if you want a good school district, I'll tell you that much!

Thats part of it. Millcreek township has recieved some recent national attention because of what it has to offer. Location, location, location, a good school system, relatively low crime rate. etc. Because of this it is slightly more expensive than some other areas around Erie. However, housing costs and living expenses are still below the national average.

How about crime, schools etc... in Waterford, Millcreek, Edinboro, Harborcreek?

Are all areas similar in terms of the level of education and low crime?

I wouldn't put my kids in Erie schools. South of Erie is nice. Take a look at Saegertown. It's in the country south of Erie. Yes, lots of snow and a little bit of a drive to Erie. I like the country, so I'm biased in that respect.

If I lived in Erie I'd most certainly live in the city. It has some great "streetcar" suburban like neighborhoods with beautiful houses, tree-lined streets with easy access to downtown and Presque Isle. I can't imagine living in the suburbs with so many great areas in the city that are safe and affordable, but some people are just afraid of the perception of a city.

I totally agree. As soon as my kids get out of Middle School I won't have a problem moving back into the City, especially since my boys will most likely go to Cathedral Prep...for the sports program.

Prep just (within the last year) bought a newly cleared industrial site, and is building a football stadium...reminds me of Notre Dame.

City schools are being rebuilt, and whole neighborhoods are being rebuilt in Central City.

The massive Kohler building complex was demolished almost 5 ? years ago? And if things get moving on that it will mean a huge Central City shopping medical and residential development.

Down on the Bayfront next to the Library (3rd largest public library in PA) a local developer has plans for at least a 14 story condominium/commercial building located on TOP of a 6 level parking garage, the structure would house a possible movie theater , high end retail shops, restuarants and hotel.

Anyone would do well to live in the City, but for Elementary and Middle School, I'd definitely stick to choice schools in the city, westside if you can help it.

If anyone wants a personal guided tour of Erie, IM me and set up a time.

For first impressions, please don't come before May 1st, and no later than November 1st.

If you come to check out Erie during Christmas, come on over, but like most northern cities, winter just dulls the first impression, and gives a false image of the year round condition.

Thanks.

.
The sports program... that's a real good reason to send your kids to school someplace. Wow. Teach em well, Dad.

As for their stadium site, it has sat undeveloped for over 3 years now. How that, in any way, shape, or form, reminds you of Notre Dame is beyond reason.

The Koehler brewery was demolished in 2006. And that development is dead. Has been for a while now. All Erie has to show for demolishing an 1860s historic landmark is a hole in the ground, literally. Again, that project has been dead for a year now, if not longer. The hospital that was slated to be a major tenant went bankrupt and the whole project was scrapped. It was never a realistic endeavor anyway. A few guys walked away with a few million in govt redevelopment funds though.

That development project on the bayfront (the planned one by Scott Enterprises) has been planned since 1998. 1998! It's not gonna happen anytime soon.

Yeah shame on him for having the desire to get his kids involved in something that will keep them occupied and have goals in their lives.
