Default Really tired of high electric bills.

Well, I just got my statement from the electric company for October's usuage. $321.67

I hate having to run the A/C 12 months of the year.
Just one more reason why I can't wait to get to PA!!

Yeah, but you'll have a heating bill for 5 or 6 months, or longer, depending on where you are in PA. It'll even out. A note, my electric bill in MD is $200/month without AC.

Like North Beach Person said, you'll have heating bills plus the caps come off the electric rates in 2010 so you may end paying just as much in utilities as you are now, if not more

You might want to consider things like solar panels...although it's cloudy in PA alot so I'm not sure how much power you'd get

When I had the same electric company as the city my bill was over $200 a month. I moved just across the river - new electric company - $55 a month!

Try to find a house with gas heat, water heater and stove...I know gas prices will be increasing also, but gas would still be cheaper than electric. I heard all my life that gas heat was warmer than electric and never believed it...until I bought my current house! Amazing! Of course the AC and lights are run by electric so you'll still have a bill...mine was $45 last month. Gas was I think about the same, since we didn't have the heat on the whole time.

That doesn't seem right. Our electric, in VA, is at its highest $260 in the summer. At the lowest in the winter it runs about $40.

MD is deregulated (I have BGE/Constellation which had the biggest increase of the MD companies) VA rates are still regulated by the state and it looks as though your Legislature has looked at MD and said "no thanks" to deregulating the rates. We had a 70% increase last year, the other companies were marginally less.

We are part of NOVEC too, an electric cooperative, which might help.
Ok, don't mean to steal the thread.

Man, here I was thinking the utilities would be cheaper. I guess in the end, it will even out...hopefully.
Oh well, very much still worth the move!!
