I dont get it... Erie is just like every other city with good and bad parts.. there are parts of Erie that are "ghetto"... I think most people who comment on here have only been to Millcreek or presque Isle and never really venture in to the city... There are parts of the eastside and westside that definately are ghetto... The Holly (buffalo rd projects area), Hood (approx E 26th to e 12 st between french and parade), and W 18th st (little Italy)areas are bad areas... Last time I was home the Lower Eastside wasnt looking to good either...
Im sure this will get a reaction like.... ha ha.. that aint nothing dawg... you need to see my old hood in Beaver Falls or New Castle(small towns outside of Pitt, that people I work with claim is worse than compton)...
whatever this is a stupid thing to argue... Erie is just like pitt, buffalo, philly, but on a smaller scale... Just like Beaver Falls is like Erie but on a smaller scale...

I'll disagree. Erie of course has its ghetto areas like every city does, but I don't think they're that bad. In the 15+ years I lived in the city, I never felt scared, even in the worst areas on the east side or on 18th. Erie's worst is nowhere near the worst you'll see in big cities like Philly where there are areas that did scare me and where I was amazed to see that nearly every parked car has a "club".
I would classify Erie as struggling with lots of lower to middle class neighborhoods, but definitely not ghetto.

You're close, I think it was late 90s. Guess I'm behind the times, I've never lived anywhere that required more than a standard car lock. But it doesn't matter for the point.

These photos are from a photo thread by Evergrey, and represent some of the condition of many of the city's neighborhoods. However, they defintiely do not represent Erie's worst areas.
Though I agree with the others that abandoned houses do not automatically equal ghetto. No one has ever tried tried to compare Erie with Philadelphia or other larger cities as far as the extent of "ghetto" neighborhoods go. Erie, as I've said numerous times in this very thread, overall is a relatively safe city, but does have areas that many would consider "ghetto".
But, mrb69, since the photos you posted are your idea of "ghetto" (as you specifically stated, "Here's a picture of a ghetto"), then I guess you just totally destroyed your entire argument. Good job.

A photo of a high-rise project in Chicago is entirely irrelevant to this discussion. No one is trying to compare Erie with the 3rd largest city in the US. Your post is worthless.
