Thanks George, It is a hard time of year.. My mom also passed of cancer, I too left my job to take care of her in her last year. Seems we had some of the same things happen.

I miss my Mom and Dad .........just like I guess we all would with that loss.
But, I know they both would not want me to sit and be idle at Christmas. They loved the holiday.
They put their hearts ,and last dollars, into making it a good memory for us.
I could so easily sit back and say.........I don't want to do this. I don't want to have a tree, lights, presents...Be with my saddness....especially the thoughts of time spent with them.
But, they would just frown down upon me...
I need to continue their joy. Make Christmas a memory. Make it good, and fun.......a day to remember.
When I leave this earth. Our children should to do the same for their families....I don't want them to miss a beat.
Tree up, bulbs on, and sing.........Sing loud enough for me to hear!

I love this thread and I consider it a Christmas gift that cannot be compared to any other as it has made me think back to when I was a child ... think about all of the gifts that I have in my life ... remember my mother and father and the love that they had for the season. It makes me think that this year ... I am going to honor some of those traditions that they held near and dear to thier hearts ... I'm going to make sure that I make the time to visit the family that I have ... and I think that this year I am going to attend the candle light Midnight Mass ... as it is always the most beautiful service ...
Thank you John for starting this and making me remember!

Yes that would be a very nice idea.. So many times we take things for granted that we tend to froget about our family members. I know I did. its very sad when something bad happens and you have to deal with that "forgetting" the rest of your life. I know I do...

John, I feel for you, I have lost my mom and dad to cancer and a favorite nephew in an accident. But I have not given up on life. My three daughters and 7 of my grandchildren are still in SoCal and though I have two grandkids and my son and DIL with me, this will be my first Christmas without at least one of my daughters. It will be tough, but I am thankful for what I do have. John, I live in Western PA, but if you want a place to come for dinner, please let me know.
