New to York PA, NEED HELP! (apartment, rentals, condo)

Hello, Me and my family will be moving to york in January, we are having no luck finding an apartment. People tell me they can't show me the property unless we drive by it, and others will not tell me the good areas, we are having lots of trouble. We wanted to live in a condo or brown stone in a more urban area, but what we can gather there no good downtown areas.

Does anyone have any advice.
