Default Franklin Country (Greencastle/Chambersburg)

Franklin country residents, I am looking for some info on taxes in the area. I have heard that Pennsylvania has some steep taxes, but I am having difficulty finding details.

I will be working in Chambersburg, but we are looking at the Greencastle area. I have heard good and bad about both.

My research now focuses on the taxes. From what I understand, I will pay the following taxes in addition to the standard federal/social security taxes.
  1. State income tax
  2. County Income Tax
  3. Local municipality income tax (Greencastle is 1% of GROSS).
  4. Country property tax for real estate
  5. Local municipality property tax for real estate.
  6. School tax
  7. Per capa tax
  8. Occupational privilege tax
Am I missing any? This list seems a bit long. Does anyone have any approximate percentages on these taxes? How much more is Greencastle over Chambersburg.

I am starting to fear this relocation to the people's republic of Pennsylvania.

Vincent

At least before the real estate meltdown, Antrim Twp (Greencastle-Antrim schools) had rapid residential growth without a whole lot of commercial tax paying to go with it. Chambersburg is at least getting truck terminals to go with the new roofs, and as a larger community to start with has lower percentage growth in services demand.

So G-A probably has more upside potential for the school taxes which is the majority of PA local tax.

But somehow it all winds up being less than MD (and there's less growth regulation) which is why there's so much more residential growth on the immediate PA side of the Mason-Dixon line.

I knew someone who worked at Letterkenny Army Depot who lived in WV. Berkeley County is probably even more over-building near the I-81 interchanges so you might be able to get a deal right now.
