according to the Fifth Annual Farmers Insurance Group of Companies study.

LancasterOnline.com:Lifestyle:Here's to you, Lancaster

Forbes Magazine also rates Lancaster County one of the 10 best places to ride out the recession and Kiplinger.com listed Lancaster as one of six 'safe havens in real estate.'

Not very surprising to me since Lancaster County is one of the best areas of the country to live, work, play, etc imho. I was blessed to be born and raised there and I can't wait to move back home. I hope you guys living there understand how great you have it because things could be much much worse.

I agree that SE Pa is riding out the recession and housing bubble burst pretty well. It was never part of the speculation market that ran home prices up to ridiculous levels like out west and down south. I also think its job market will be fairly steady, many places that relied heavily on industries that will suffer will get hit hard, as well as many areas hoping to cash in on speculative new areas, green technology for one.
Its also a safe area, not prone to natural disaters or severe weather. Knock wood.

I've come to these conclusions myself and it's why it is top on my list of places to move to. Employment opportunities, safe places, open space and reasonable housing. Yup, on the top of the list.

I hope to get more chances to try some of the local foods. When I go down with friends, we usually eat at Bird in Hand, so everyone can get whatever they want. I'd like to try some of the small local places. Suggestions welcome!

I do stock up on local fruits, veggies, and eggs. Nothing beats a farm fresh egg! When we go down, no trip is complete without a stop at the Shady Maple, I can get so many things there that I can't find up here in NY. I went a little nuts with the sanding sugars last trip! I'll have to start making lots of cookies, cupcakes and such to use them up.
