Default Need to decide on what to do.

I live in florida. i've lived here since i was 6. since the begining of time people have been moving to florida. now I am being force to move away. reason is : i cant offord to live here anymore. wages are very low. rent and house cost are insainly high. So i will move.

Some friend once told ,e about a city in PA called franklin, he said nice place cheap home. So i looked it up , and i liked what i fuond. nice small town. i love small towns. VERY CHEAP HOMES. wow for once i can buy my fammily our own house! oh-no, there are problems. my friend said flanklin has no employment. this is why its so small and so cheap. oh dear. what shall i do?

wife likes san antonio, texas becuase some friends of her moved there, sure more job but its a HUGE city, and huge crime, and huge house prices!

So is it pratical to move to a nice place like flanklin PA? ive got quite a bit money saved up to do the move. is there better places? without moving to one of those HUGE mega citys? anything info anybody can tell me i will realy beg for. so talk to me.

BTW im a truck driver. wife works as a mananger of a local mcdoalnds.

I did a Mapquest search for Franklin, PA because I wasn't sure where it was. There are FOUR Franklins in PA, one near Philly, one near the middle of PA and two out west more. Which county is the Franklin in that you're looking at?

I'd strongly caution against San Antonio, Texas. I type child protective services reports from Texas and the amount of drug-related and other crimes in that area is very frightening. I believe if you want Texas that Austin might be a better choice.

I'd highly recommend central PA, with lower housing costs, good jobs available (lots of truck drivers live around here, and quite a few McDonald's and other fast food places), safe and friendly environment. I'm especially partial to Selinsgrove (Snyder County) but there are many small towns right in this area that would make you a wonderful home.

Good luck in your search!

I thought you were talking about the Franklin above Pittsburgh. We have a 100 acres up there for our summer camp. You're a truck driver so you can live anywhere. It's conveniently located near 80 and 79 so you have easy access to major interstates which is very important for a truck driver.

I'm sending you a private message. You'll find it in the upper right hand corner of your screen under where it says "welcome Yyrd"

Selingrove is very nice but it's more expensive to buy a house there than Franklin. It's probably less expensive than Florida though. A couple of years ago, I looked at houses in the Selingrove area and I was surprised at the housing costs. In Pittsburgh, housing is fairly affordable. I always assumed that moving into more rural areas would have even more affordable housing. Not so in Selingrove. The housing costs there are comparable to Pittsburgh. That's because it's located right in the middle of a bunch of private colleges. As a result, real estate is pretty expensive up there for a rural area of Pennsylvania.

Wow! $20,000 for a home! There are some towns in central PA where you can get houses like that. Shamokin is one that comes to mind. They often have half doubles for sale for $20,000. For $40,000 you can buy both sides, convert back to a single family home and have a large house.

You're right that Selinsgrove has more expensive homes than Franklin. I wasn't aware how inexpensive you were talking about. Around here $20,000 would get you an old mobile home. You can buy houses under $100,000, sometimes even around $50,000 but they often needs LOTS of work.

With your truck driving career and the location of Franklin it sounds like Hopes is right and it would be a good fit for you.

Housing prices are so relative. Coming from California, I'm excited that I can find a home for $350,000.
