Best of luck to you.
For the most part, they are very cold to newcomers and there's nothing there. They couldn't even support a fast food place that just went out of business. Their claim to fame is the kristenkindl" (sp) or something like that every Christmas.
The Scarlet D has just been remodeled and is opening with live music on the agenda. Other than that, there's not much going on BUT they do have the best hoagie shops in the area. It's also a very clean town where the locals take pride in the appearance of their properties.
If you like to fish, this area is the place to be.
I'm also an accountant and will retire in a few years. I'm also planning on working in retail for a few extra bucks and something to do. There are countless retail jobs available in this area.

Mifflinburg is a beautiful little town with wonderful people. I think they'd welcome you. However, quiet little Mifflinburg would be a totally different lifestyle than you're used to in Las Vegas. Talk about culture shock! Las Vegas stays open 24/7, right? Mifflinburg rolls up the sidewalks at night! But for good clean living in a beautiful environment, you can't go wrong.
The retail jobs will be increasing soon, as a Super Wal-Mart is set to open in Lewisburg soon and "the strip" near Selinsgrove will soon be home to some new stores.
Best of luck to you in your decision.

well, well! i feel like i just made two new friends-mifflinnburg can't be all that cold.
as for las vegas opened 24 hours-i have lived my young, exciting all nighter life and now at my stage in life, i will roll up with the sidewalks! what sounds good to me is waking up in the morning when i want to, having a hot bowl of home made soup and making my own hours to work. I don't do fast food and prefer home cooking-(you know what's in it and who handled it)
probably will do an on line business catering to las vegas and phoenix with a shop opened in mifflinburg for its community and surrounding areas giving me plenty of time to enjoy life.
i guess if i do my own thing, don't bother anybody, won't worry about nothing to do or eat in mifflinburg and just be courteous to fellow neighbors and customers-life might be ok there. i'm a very secure and independant person with plenty of friends that i would try to talk into moving there. i am fast paced and even here that can bother people-that might be my only downfall there, -------except for being single at the moment, -------that ought to give a small town plenty of conversation! ooooooooooooooh, why is he single? how many divorces and kids does he have or is he gay!
AM I RIGHT?

I imagine a single 54-yo man would cause some gossip at first, but once you get to know your neighbors and the "regulars" at places you'd frequent you'd be fine.
Mifflinburg has two very nice "home cooking" restaurants - Carriage Corner and The Old Turnpike. As Susquehannock mentioned, the Scarlet D is reopening soon.
Mifflinburg has Sheetz, a large convenience store/gas station that's part of a PA-based chain that goes as far south as Virginia. The local grocery store is Weis and they just built a big new store in Mifflinburg. There are "local" shops with quilts, bicycles, home decorating, etc. Lots of "small town America" flavor to these places. I'm sure, at your "advanced" (LOL!) stage of life you'd be very happy in Mifflinburg. I can just picture you waking when you're reading, grabbing your cup of coffee and heading out onto your deck or patio to read the paper (but not in the winter!).
Keep us posted!!

I'm new to this forum but I wanted to reply to your question about Mifflinburg, PA. I have been visiting the Mifflinburg area every year for about 8 years now and I love it there. The mountains are just minutes away. It's a small community with friendly people. The cost of living (homes, real estate taxes, car insurance, etc.) is a lot less than the Philadelphia area. You can see the Amish continuing their tradition of riding horse and buggy as well. We are considering moving there in another year or two ourselves when we retire. It's a beautiful area and we love it! Good luck!

Looking for an apartment in Mifflinburg or Lewisburg. I have a daughter that is moving there who will be working for the Mifflinburg School District. From what I'm reading I feel very confident that she is going to be extremely happy working and living in the area. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
