spring weather starts in PA in april. April is often rainy, though the temperatures are warming up and usually in the 50's and 60's.

That depends on where you live. In southern PA, it's not uncommon to see temperatures reach the 50's in February and 60's (sometimes 70's) in March.

Hmmm--I got married on March 18th in the Lehigh Valley. There was snow on the ground and it was cold. By March in the South we no longer need even a sweater and usually are in short sleeves. Until you live like that for 30 years it is hard to understand the difficulty of going back to the longer months of winter.
For me, I think it really isn't the cold though or the snow. It is the fact that where I am now the skies are blue all year round. Only a day or two will be cloudy and then that quickly changes. No long term gloomy days. So the people are cheerful--I can't stress that enough. I remember on my last visit home tp Pa I went out for some shopping. People would pass me and not make eye contact but would tuck their heads down and scowl. I was reminded of how different the South is. People give cheery hellos when you enter a shop or pass them by, wait people and clerks chat, retailers help you locate something in a rival business if they don't have it, and in general people of all ages are well-groomed and coiffed and polite in public. It is very unusual to see someone with a sour expression. It makes for a more relaxed and warm environment.
Hence the dilemma about moving back---I think it will take a while to make this decision.

Is this a joke? People are more well groomed in the south?

Nicer in the south - maybe.

Better groomed? - that's a bit of a reach.

Thanks for the info! Could you tell me what the summers are like in Berks County?
Here, they are hot, hot and hotter with 80-90% humidity. Ugh!
I am hoping for 80's to very low 90's, with very little humidity.
I know, I want my cake and to eat it too.

Now Johnny C---yes indeed better groomed. I am talking about apples and apples here. There are "overly casual" people in both areas. Those doing physical labor or working the land might be in their workaday outfits. But among the set that would not be working in physical labor or working the land--the urbanites, the business types, the students, housewives shopping----the southern women are beautifully turned out. Students don't go out without their face on--have you walked on a campus in the South??? Even the guys though casual-always clean and neat---I am telling you--it is true--in the grocery store I am the worst one there, going as is--they don't do that. The hair is salon done and you can smell the waft of nice cologne about you. Don't be deceived by the stereotypes out there. Come and see. Public appearance means public preparedness.--

Yes you do! But seriously, I love Fall and Spring...They are so beautiful, happy, crisp, colorful, and alive, are they not?

Many many years ago, I worked in Sinking Springs....

Hugs

I don't know. I work in a major retail establishment and people do that kind of stuff here. Sorry to hear you had such bad experiences in PA. I've had bad customer service in the South just as much as the North. If anything, while visiting Canada last year I noticed people there were definetely more polite and friendly in general then in the U.S.

Not sure specifically about Berks county, but much of PA has hot humid summers. Temps often in 80's with high humidity.
