Anyone, everyone who has an opinion!

Looking for info. other than just grades/test preformance in the public schools. Location, attitudes, respect, discipline, safety, activities, parent involvement, work ethic, sex, alcohol/drugs, internet issues, immigrant influence (good and bad), facilities...experiences riding the bus vs. safety for kids biking or walking. I'm more interested in the west side - Hempfield, Donegal, Warwick, Manheim Township, Manheim Central, Elizabethtown, Conestoga Valley - and the quality of life in the towns that feed these districts, but if you have other info on other districts, please post!

Looking for small town living with some degree of convenience...

Anyone know the future of Lancaster, development of Mount Joy/Marietta or other areas - plans to build/expansion of roads - anything!!

Thank you!

We live in Conestoga Valley District and my husband teaches in Lancaster City. Our district is pretty rural, but not far from the city (10 minute drive). We are close to lots of shopping; Rockvale Square Outlets, Target, Walmart, Restaurants, etc... But we also live near farms and it is quiet and affordable here.

Work ethic: traditionally excellent here
Safety: We feel very safe. I would even feel pretty safe living in the "good" parts of the city.
Attitudes: in the richer districts (manheim districts and hempfield), you may find the "rich kid" mentality, but that is not the norm in my opinion. many students have jobs and are involved in extra-curricular activities.
Immigrant issues: In the city you will see a mix of asian-black-hispanic. The areas you are considering are mostly caucasian/christian.
Sex/Drugs: This area is traditionally very conservative, but that doesn't mean we don't have problems. Overall, I would say it is the parent's influence that makes the difference. The strong religious influence here can either help or hinder with these issues.

In our opinion, the best schools to check out are Manheim Township or Central, Hempfield or Warwick.

Good luck; hope it helps!
