Although I've heard many complaints of Erie, some on boredom and some on snow, I'm 23 and greatly enjoy it here.
We've got minor league hockey, baseball, indoor football, and basketball. Lots of parks and bike trails. A great bayfront, lake, peninsula, beaches, theaters, movie theaters, shopping.
Plus we're close to Pittsburgh, Buffalo, and Cleveland if you want a road trip to a larger city or to catch a concert.
My guess is that the people who complain of boredom are those that would either be bored anywhere. Or someone who doesn't like the lots of snow we get.
We do have one mega church (Erie First Assembly Welcome to Erie First Assembly of God a few large churches, and tons of smaller ones. (Personally, I prefer a smaller church and know of quite a few people who have left First Assembly).
Cheers,
Andrew

Thats it right there.
We came home for Easter yesterday. Although I love living in Pittsburgh, there are a lot of things I miss about Erie. I could easily live without the "people have to sit in traffic" mentality. It was nice being in town, knowing if we moved back to Erie, we could go out on Sunday night and know the crowds are less as they should be.

Erie's not a bad community. I grew up in Harborcreek (am now moving to outskirts of Cleveland) and although I know there is some racism, I think that's true anywhere. I wouldn't say you'd notice anything "overt and in-your-face", but for some people up here it's definitely true that seeing a person of race move in next door "shocks them" for a bit, but I'd say most get over it pretty quickly.
Although I believe you'd be fine living in Harborcreek and you'd find everyone very nice, I would probably agree with another poster that *more* people in Millcreek are more accustomed to people of different races.
However, I don't agree with someone else that Erie's "diverse". I don't doubt we do have our share of people with African, Asian ancestries, outside of the city proper you don't notice it at all. That includes dining out, etc.
As for the house on 35th and Parade, it's not a bad neighborhood, but as far as I know it's not the best either, but then again I've never lived in Erie itself. I agree with the poster who said to stay above 32nd street. If you look at the west-side though, you can probably look for a home down to about 26th street, and some other neighborhoods closer to the lake.

Oh, I don't think Erie is bad at all for someone in their 20s. The city is full of college students and the music scene is fun fun fun! I had the best times before I started my family and settled down. There are problems though if you plan to settle down and make a life for yourself there. Almost no opportunity for careers unless you are in the medical field and not much money going into the community. Very little growth if any at all. There are things that are very endearing about Erie but in the end I didn't love it and moved away.

don't move to erie. very miserable people here who do not need or want anymore friends, especially anyone NOT from erie. nobody smiles at you, nobody even responds to you, and i'm convinced it's the weather. the weather is so bad here, including the humidity in the summer, that people shove broomsticks up their backsides for distracting fun. I'm from pittsburgh, and i'm telling you, move to the north hills of pittsburgh. great place, welcoming people, very down to earth. erie sucks. and i'm not just saying that. i haven't made a single friend here in a year, and when my lease is up in july, i'm outta here!

Although your post is very childish and ridiculous, there are a few tidbits of truth in it.
I do agree there are a lot of miserable people in Erie. People cry and moan because of the lack of employment opportunities, but run anyone or anything out of town that wants to make Erie their home for their company.
As for the North Hills of Pittsburgh vs Erie, come on. You go ahead and live in Wexford or Cranberry in your little cookie cutter homes that are so far distanced from the real world. Erie will always be the hometown I love, and I love living in the City of Pittsburgh now. I do wish Erie would break the city up in to neighborhoods like Pittsburgh does and allow them to take on their own being.
