Thanks for the pictures
I have relatives in the Pittsburgh metro area and outside Uniontown. Although I've never been to Oil City, the houses and landscape look similiar to southwestern PA. Blaine, another poster from Fairmont, WV took pictures too and I see some similarity to southwestern PA.

Thanks for the photos. Every year we drive out there and have driven through Oil City and Franklin at least once. That place is bleak and gray in winter. But I do like the abundance of lakes, swamps, forests and lack of development from a naturalist point of view.

Oil City photographic trip
Thanks for your photographic trip of Oil City. I was born and raised here on West Third Street - you had many pictures of the street. After college I spent several years in Erie, PA, but when my daughter was 1 year old circumstances and an opportunity arose that drew my husband and I back here. You analysis of our town is right on - there are beautiful homes and some shabby ones too. Isn't that the case anywhwere? Overall housing is inexpensive compared with the rest of the world and "good buys" can be found if you're looking for one. I've been a real estate agent here for the past 8 years working for my mother - one of the reasons I came back. With the prices being reasonable I've chosen to invest in the real estate as well because I can get a good return on my money. It's unfortunate that the person that felt that the landlord that paid 30K for a property and then rented it out for $450 per month doesn't see this an an opportunity. It's a great investment opportunity for them. Thanks so much for your pic of the church. That is the Good Hope Lutheran Church on the Southside. That church was my Grandfather's vision and dream. His name was Lee and when my duaghter was born we named her Ashlee with the two "EE's after him. Also, thanks to the person that threw in the pics of The Boat Club at Rockmere. I've spent much of the summertime there all my life. My Mom and Dad have cottages there. Two Uncles live there year round now. What fun I've had this evening looking at these pictures and reading through the posts. Oil City doesn't have tons of excitement, but it is a little gem here in Venango County. If anyone wants info on real estate I'm here for you.

Nice job on the pictures...
When you pulled into Oil City, you went to the south side of town. I grew up there. You went passed my old grade school, five blocks from old home. Had you gone a few blocks from that school you would of seen some great neighborhoods with large homes in the 50-100k range. The market is slow in Oil City and those homes can be purchased for a lot less. I know a lot about Oil City. I lived there for 28 years. I saw the posts and thought I may be of some help to people considering Oil City.

Hi cosmic,
My husband just bought a house on w. first street. I only saw the house by pictures he took with my camera. I appreciate you showing some of the areas. The first batch of pictures kind of scared me. The second batch of pictures I loved! Now I am excited. All we need to do is pray our house sold in Florida. We should be moving in our new home regardless of the sale of our florida home in September.

Mr T
I am sure I will freeze my butt off,( ) but I can't stand sweating 10 months out of the year. I just hope my husband lets me control the gas fire places for the first year until my blood thickens up a little. Could be a rather expensive heating bill for a while. I just can't wait to see the leaves change. I feel like a little kid waiting for Christmas.

Yeah, fall is great. The Apple Festival is nearby Franklin is always fun too in the first part of October.
As to those heating bills, make sure to insulate if the home is not already, and get a efficient furnace. We saved about 80% in our gas bills doing that. It really did make a big difference.
