That's -11 for Republicans and +10 for Democrats. Nah, not much of a shift, right?

Historically York and Lancaster have been conservative yes, but you clearly haven't been keeping up with the trend lately. Lancaster is following suit with the rest of the Philadelphia suburban counties and their Democratic shift. York slightly less so and as a result of the increasing population from the DC/Baltimore area.
If you look at the York co. numbers they are pretty much exactly the same as Lancaster. Besides, we're talking about 1 election where the GOP did not do well across the board, I don't call 1 election a trend. I also mentioned that southwestern PA was trending to the right, which I based on several recent elections. The suburbs of philly and lehigh valley have shifted to the left...again, based on the trends from the past several elections. I think you're really jumping the guy to assume this "trend" is going to continue. Your wishful thinking does not equal facts.

There is a clear demographic shift happening in these counties which would correspond to the changing political landscape. If you don't want to believe that, okay.

Such places tend to be as bizarre in their own way, as Berkeley or Boulder. Worse, they are a crashing bore. I hope this isn't the kind of nation we are becoming. Idiots clumping together in little tribalistic communities, out of fear of being exposed to different ideas, and types of people. God, I can imagine what kind of freak children will be the product of such an upbringing. Maybe you people should immigrate back to Europe. The Balkans would be a great place to start. Better yet, grow up, and expand your horizons.

You know, this person wanted some relocation advice, not parenting advice, not socialization advice.
Thank GOD for NOW this is still a free country, so hey, guess what!?! We can decide where we want to move for whatever reason we want to, be it religious, political, for the partyin' or to retire.

You are downright rude and this comment was uncalled for.
Takes a freak to know a freak, eh?

Sheesh, everyone take a chill

How some neighborhood voted in an election says nothing about what these voters are like to live with.

I have neighbors who voted for McCain that I am 90+% on the same page with, and those who voted for Obama that I view as nice folks but culturally very far to the right compared with my liberal East Coast social attitudes.

I knew some extreme liberals (that made me feel like a neocon ) when I lived in Juniata County, and I've met all too many stolid bores in the Harrisburg area. Reading comments in this forum, it often surprises me how differently others view communities I would have considered liberal or conservative. It is always a case of 'your mileage may vary'.

Personally, I don't care how my neighbors vote and I hope they won't ask me about politics as a first step in getting to know me. Others feel differently, so maybe what the o.p. is looking for is a community where people like to talk politics, and judge their neighbors accordingly?

No, I believe it. You're correct. Lancaster and York are now on par with San Fran. You'd be hardpressed to find a more liberal area in PA than York and Lancaster.

I said that McCain won every county in southwestern PA outside of Allegheny, was I wrong there? I specifically listed several conservative counties, like Butler, Westmoreland, Fayette, Somerset, York, and Lancaster. Was I wrong on any of those? Did Obama win any of those counties? Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Obama carried Cambria County

Many of these counties like Dauphin and Chester were always conservative. They'll change back after 4 years of this president!!!

Jim Carville said something about that a long time ago - something about PA being like Alabama, except in its larger cities.
I think Carville said,"Everything between Philadelphia and Pittsburgh just as soon be Alabama"

But, be that as it may...... Having lived in both State College and Mill Hall and having traveled around all of "Happy Valley", I can attest to the fact that these people are some of the nicest, friendliest, and most conservative people I've ever found. The surrounding landscapes are beautiful; game is abundant, and the weather is delightful. My wife and I would move back today, if we could. It is a glorious area in which to live, especially if you are weary from big city living.

I grew up in the Harrisburg area, the rural area! I kiss it in the spring and fall only. I mostly enjoy the sunny Florida more.
