We used to take our snowmobiles up there to ride the trails around Forest City, since they always get more snow. Overall, I would say it would be a nice, safe, peaceful place to live.....a Mayberry kind of town.

I agree fully with ConorsDad here.

Forest City is the starting line of the popular annual Steamtown Marathon, which winds its way down the Upper Lackawanna Valley and ends in Downtown Scranton. I've only been to town once, but my impression was generally positive. It's on the small side, but it has its own school district (Forest City Regional), and, as he already said, that area is prone to get much heavier snowfalls than surrounding areas due to its higher elevation. Forest City is located in extreme southeastern Susquehanna County, about a mile from the borders of both Lackawanna County and Wayne County. There's not much to see or do in town, and most of your conveniences will be met in Carbondale, about an eight minute drive south along Route 171. Scranton is roughly a half-hour south of Forest City, and it's here where you'll find most of your big-box stores, night clubs, ethnic restaurants, sporting events, concerts, and other "big city" types of amenities. Elk Mountain Ski Resort is located just northwest of town in the community of Union Dale. Housing prices in town are very inexpensive---not because the town is undesirable, but rather because it's so isolated from Scranton and, to a lesser extent, Binghamton, NY, so there's not much of a demand for housing in Forest City.
