It doesn't really matter where he lives, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that when you think that the whole town you live in is rude, and you're the only nice one, then the problem lies with you. The people I have met in Pa are wonderful, the nicest people around!

I know that's hard to believe. Seriously though, I was born and raised in this state, and after doing some traveling, I honestly believe that Pennsylvania is a state with mostly genuinely friendly people. Do you mind me at least asking where in PA you lived that give you such an impression? I only ask you because your exact location can make all the difference.
Umm...no. Everywhere I lived in New England, people were always nice, even more so today. It's the outsiders that they hate because they ridicule them for their accent. Also, they just don't like outsiders. I guess it's the same way here. It's not just one town, it's all of the ones I've been in throughout eastern PA.

People in New England are down to earth, and honest. If you **** them off, they will let you know about it, not beat around the bush like everyone here. I hate that. If someone makes me mad, I let them know. People here don't have as much common sense, and I call them on it. These people would never survive up north. Almost Everyone around here lives in a fantasyland and sits in their ivory tower thinking they are better than the next person. I don't go around chanting "PA SUCKS!" as you all may think. People who do hate it here, which is more than half of the population, bring it up, and then we all have a discussion on how PA sucks, most of these people that agree with me are from Ohio, New Jersey, NEw York, and everywhere else. Even a good portion of them are from PA. So don't go making assumptions that it's all me, because it's not.

I live in Mechanicsburg, BTW

Well I'm glad you did a scientific poll.

All I can say to that is: to each his own. Best of luck to you in your New England endeavors.

Most of the people who say "PA sucks" are teenagers who think that everywhere else must be more "fun." Then they grow up, have a fmily, and realize that they miss PA and move back.

Funny you mention how much NY and NJ people must hate PA, since it seems that people from NY and NJ are flocking to live in PA, especially in the Poconos.

Well, we are all entitled to our opinions. I am not a teenager, I am near retirement age and have seen a lot of the country. Is Pennsylvania attractive? Yes. Is it a good place to try and earn a living? In my opinion, No.

I've been away too long to tell. I left at 19 in 1971 to join the Air Force. I miss family though. I live in Cheyenne WY now quiet easy going low humidity ect. I am very seriously considering moving back I only have one life and I'm not getting any younger. I guess this really doesn't help your decision much but there are good and bad everywhere just name your poison.

It all depends on what type of field you are in. There are micro-markets here that are booming. Not trying to be a wise a##, but mental health professionals make an extremely good living here. So do pavement maintenance firms, roofing companies and landscapers, due to the infamously brutal weather.

On the other hand, teachers and other young professionals with degrees don't make crap here. Probably because the whole state is "college land" and the massive flow of college grads applying for jobs outnumbers the actual amount of jobs 10-1.

You could say the same thing about Pittsburgh, only I don't think that city has any outside influences. It's almost like a small state within a state. A very strange place. Come to think of it, it wouldn't be too hard to turn Pittsburgh into
a separate state all together. Perhaps instead of wasting millions of tax dollars on the "Tunnel to Nowhere" so that Steelers fans can walk under the river to Heinz field, the city could declare itself an independent state and dig a moat around itself. Lake Erie could be the sole tributary. It would be easy!

Here is a picture illustrating my ingenious idea:do-you-miss-pennsylvania-state-pittsburgh.jpg

The only thing I miss is Penn State football (but I've got Gameplan so I get to watch them on TV). I used to miss the chips, but we have Utz's here now. I live in Holly Springs, NC (Raleigh sub) and love it.

Yipe. What would that do to Presque Isle?
